Any of you use poker software to help with your pot odds, and EV etc? I downloaded the free version of Hold'em Spyware and Poker Indicator to check out their potential. The free version of HS works only with play chips. You have to upgrade for use with real money. The upgrade is $49.00. PI has a free version too. Its the same deal as HS. If you want its features on real money tables you have to pay $55.00. It does have a manual calculator that figures out probability and can be used on real money tables. That was my downfall today.........i lost $25 using the PI manual calculator. I spent to much time staring at the calculator and not enough time at the game. So far i've done much better on my own however it helps to have an edge.

Anyone have any recommendations for this type of software?

I did used one program long time ago on the "play money" tables.
Helped me a bit to "cool down" and not to be too eager to get into too many hands. Never used it on "real money" tables. Beside ..... you don't just play on odds ... sometimes you just want to steal the pot .... not that I would do it .. ever ..... :D

ps. I believe Party Poker, as well as other gaming sites, do check for existence of "help" programs. Of course there are ways around it ..... but.... check it before you use it in your game.

All the online poker sites VM allow you to use calculators, because its nothing more than figuring things out with a paper and pencil. Where they draw the line is when you use software that plays for you.

I tested the software that could read cards I receive, and bets posted on the table. Was nice, but ....
I play minimum of 3 tables, and up to 6 tables at the same time .... imagine 6 additional windows open..... no way .. it would be too much of a destruction, and anyway .. it is better to read a good book or two on poker and understand it, then use a program. You cannot take it to a real table anyway.
The only help I use is a statistics window on Party Poker. Shows me if I play tight or loose.

btw... I have seen you today on line, but by the time I got a seat at your table.... you were gone.
Maybe you would save me from flush "A" high against straight flush .... ohhh, it was painful.

We all have our bad beat stories VM.

The last 24 hours i've wasted a lot of time and money trying out different poker software. There was a Canadian from back east who won some big tournament in the Bahamas and he was saying how much having this software helped him out so i thought i would look into it. Dumb idea. If i just play my game i play really well but when i start looking at stats etc it fucks me up.

I often wondered if there are 2 or more players at the table who are IMing each other during the game.

A couple of guys who teamed up would have a huge advantage.

I agree, but I think it would be fairly easy to spot on low limit tables .... different story on hi limit tables .... a nip here, and a nip there .... and you earn more then a days work at McD.

You are crippling your poker game by depending on these calculators.

Work to learn the numbers on your own so they become second nature, and you're thinking about what your opponents have and how they play instead of running the numbers in your head. (That should be your edge as opposed to having an odds calculator up.)

This lesson provided free of charge. Next lesson at the tables ;)

Yes, this does happen.

HOwever,, Alll the top poker sites have tools to find cheaters.

Remember, when you play online, every single thing about you is logged, and every hand you have ever played is stored. They can look at how you played every single hand with any other specific person at the table.

Some of the big sites even refund money you may have lost each time they find cheaters even when you had no idea you were cheated.

Simple Math

Odds are just simple math for the most part. Count your outs and multiply. x4 for each out at the turn and x2 for each out on the river to get your rough % chance a card that will help is coming. Before the flop do not think about it to much, be more concerned with a strong hand. The trick to odds working this way is be honest about your outs ... i.e. if you are playing ace - three suited, pairing the three is not a good option so you would only have 14 outs to start with, 11 more suited cards and 3 aces. It is not a perfect system but if you want to figure outs and odds it is simple. The step after that is add the pot odds.
