Hi sweetie!

If all you need is web-mail and internet browsing, just get a $300 netbook (any brand - they're all made of the same shit from China). If you need Microsoft Office functions (like outlook, excel, word etc. ) you will need to spend more like $600+ including all the software. I just go to Future Shop or London Drugs and price shop for the best deal. If you are fussy about brand, NCIX sells Lenovo (the old IBM brand) at good prices. The heavy duty gamers will spend $1,000 plus because they want speed, speed, speed....

You should just buy a netbook if it's just a couple of emails, facebook, youtube, general web browsing, word perfect. Can get a acer for 199.99 at futureshop(dont buy their stupid insurance though). Generally the manufacture warranty for a year is good enough. Pay 269.00-300 if you want a 6 cell battery for the netbook .....which basically last 5-6 hours. I wouldnt pay more unless youre into gaming with the laptop. The screen is 10 inches for most netbooks but it's lightweight and good enough for general use.

Something like this is good enough these days. Battery last about 2 1/2 hours before u need to recharge.

By "escort related stuff" do you mean you require any page making capabilities?

If not, I agree with Cjac's response. Otherwise, I would suggest getting one of the MacBooks available from the refurbished dept at apple.ca

It's hard to go too far wrong... pretty much any new laptop these days is very nice. This would be my choice for a nice all-rounder: http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product...spx?path=dac62f928a27973a3b69ca4ce2562a24en02

It's on sale right now for $500 so it's a good price, processor is decent, lots of hard drive space, screen size is good but not too big that it's hard to carry around.

I somewhat disagree with the netbook recommendations, even if you are using it for just basic e-mail. I had a netbook once and returned it after a day because it sucked so bad. Just frustratingly slow, and the small keyboard was annoying for touch typers, even ones with relatively small hands like myself.

I have both laptop and netbook. I thought the speed was about the same(unless you download lots of stuff to slow it down). Maybe i have not much stuff downloaded compared to most people.

Is an optical drive important to you? If not then I'd recommend a netbook, for what you're describing its all you will need.

I recommend a Samsung over HP:

If you're looking at MacBook Air get a new one...

http://store.apple.com/ca/browse/home/shop_mac/family/macbook_air/select

It's worth the extra $100 over a refurbished one for all of the new features. Plus a back light keyboard is more important then you'd think.

If it's just for email, websurfing, buying stuff online, etc. I think you might want to go with an iPad, or Android Tablet.
They're just fine for light weight computing (i.e. no heavy data entry of any kind), they're as portable and energy efficient as netbooks, plus they're "in vogue" with the industry right now, meaning there's lots of new apps and accessories coming out by the week.

They cost around $400-600 for a decent Android Tablet, and $550-$850 for an iPad2.

I agree with getting a tablet cause with apps, it makes it more functional than a netbook and longer battery life as well.
Should check-out the Asus EeePAD Transformer Tablet with docking keyboard and uses the Android OS; all together for under $500 or without keyboard it's $400. Saw this at NCIX on sale $50-$80 cheaper; just get futureshop or bestbuy to price match it.

You can use a 6 cell battery for your notebook which is just as long or longer than a ipad or tablet. I have both tablet and netbook and i cant stand typing on a tablet. The apps are sorta gimmicky and sorta lame.

I would not bother with the tablets, my new cell phone - the Samsung Galaxy SII LTE has a better/faster processor than most if not all of the tablets in the market today. That alone should tell you something...

Operating System is becoming meaningless because Apple, Windows and Android all support the same capabilities. What really drives battery life is the screen and the number of spindles in the system. If you have a hard drive and a DVD, you have 2 spindles and use more power.
Have to disagree about battery life related to the screen anymore cause since the intro of LED LCD which uses less power than the old CFL LCD. You are right about hard drives and DVD drives plus also you can't forget the cooling fan; essentially anything that has a motor in it is going to drain the battery.

You can use a 6 cell battery for your notebook which is just as long or longer than a ipad or tablet. I have both tablet and netbook and i cant stand typing on a tablet. The apps are sorta gimmicky and sorta lame.
Your error about 6 cell battery in laptop lasting longer than any tablet; most you can get with a 6 cell battery is little over 2 hours of usage. Where tablets have no mechanical devices; giving tablets 4x longer battery life than any laptop with a 6 cell battery.

There is one issue about all the current Android Tablets which are dual-core, is that the next generation quad-core tablets are coming out this fall or early next year.

You are so wrong about the 6 cell battery only getting 2 hours. You've done no research or havent looked online. Matter of face the 3 cell batter last 2.5 hours and the 6 cell battery last 5-8 hours. Anyways most people who go out rarely sit there for over 5 hours. Just look at futureshop which says the six cell last 8 hours. Mines last exactly 6 hours i know this cause ive timed my usage before. I've talked to ipad2 users and they tell me their battery life isnt worth the extra cost. The other thing is when you go to a computer shop and pay a extra 80.00 or so for 6 cell so youd get more than 3 hours. Probably last me only 6 hours cause i have videos streaming nonstop for the 6 hours im on lol(Or you can have it go to 8 hours) The apple website said the ipad you can get up to 9 hours depending on how you use it. Unsure if it's worth spending so much money for one more hour or the same amount of hours.

Video chat, record footage, and take still pictures with the built-in webcam

Social networking keys log you into Facebook, YouTube, and Flickr with a press of a button

Super-long 8 hour battery life

Surf the net, chat, and check and send email in any wireless hotspot with 802.11b/g/n wireless connectivity

Transfer data to and from your portable digital devices with the memory card reader

*Here's the link which states 8 hours. I've never had my battery just last two bloody hours like you stated

If you want more battery life than ipad or any tablet out there get the 9 cell battery for the same price lol.

I said as long or longer in the first sentence cause it really depends on how you use your netbook or ipad. If they are having their videos blasting or music going then it's really hard to determine how long they last. Most people only need about their netbook lasting 5 hours. Was given a tablet for as a present and I thought it wasnt worth the extra money

Sorry but thats the impression i get from your first sentence.

Your referring to Netbooks from your links which i agree from your experience but, manufacturers specs are ideal conditions listed on futureshop and amazon. I'm talking about laptops/notebooks not netbooks cause there is a BIG difference.

Are you talking about notebook or netbook? It's hard to tell from what you typed earlier. Nevermind then i thought we where talking about netbooks the whole time. Just looked at a search engine and there are 6 & 9 cell battery for notebooks also(im sure they have it for laptops also).

Agree to sexy Melina. Mac it is.

If email and escort review boards are all you need to play around, my recommendation is iPad.
You can even get individual applications for text editting, photo and movie editting, and those application is less than $10.

Good to take it to a tour as well.
iPad 2, starting from around $500 ish I believe?

I would stay clear of tablets if you want an actual computer. They are basically readers that can do a bit more, but way less effectively than any computer.

A netbook is ok for e-mail and things like word/excel/presentations. But beyond that they are a bit slow. I have one that I use for work, because it is very easy to carry around, but I upgraded the memory from 1GB to 2GB. I use it for basic graphics editing (CorelDraw) as well, and it handles that just fine. Netbooks are completely useless for games though, or anything that requires a large amount of video processing (video for example). Also, if you want to use DVDs you need an external drive or access to another computer that you can network to (just make the other computers optical drive shared).

I think you would be better off with a basic laptop though. You can get decent ones for ~$500-600.

Stay away from Macs. They are high end computers that charge a premium relative to the technology in them. Most people who have them buy them as status symbols more than anything else, so they are prepared to pay the price. If you don't care about that then you would be much better served getting a cheaper windows machine, it will do what you want just as well.
