To be fair..Greece has no money and baseball isn't popular there. I'm pretty sure the Olympic sliding centre up by Whistler will become something else when the World Cup decides not to use it as a venue.

worst ones were the ones from Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008. Sarajevo was war zone so understandable
If the toilets on the 2008 Beijing Olympic site weren't so damn disgusting, people might be willing to around and do something there. As it is, people come down to where you take a picture of yourself with the Bird's Nest and then leave the site as quickly as they can.

That isn't the situation at the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven or Tiananmen Square. They all have decent toilets including a sufficient number of western style flush toilets.

I think there is something political happening with the 2008 Olympic Site. I've seen what happens when the "sponsor" of a project becomes "out of favor". Their projects are all also "out of favor".

I was thinking at that the other day stan. What do they plan to do with them after?

G8 summit will be held there this year.
World Cup soccer will be held in 2018. In Sochi.

I think that is the problem with the Olympics in general, especially when it is held in smaller or less developed cities. They have to have venues for all the sports, but afterwards there is not necessarily enough local demand to warrant maintaining those sites. So they will either decay or be bulldozed.

Take those artificial rivers they build for the kayaking events....I bet most of those go back to grass and feral chickens after the Olympics are done.

The toilets have nothing to do with it, all 3 are historic sites that were there before the Olympics. The main problem with the Bird's Nest and all the other Olympic venues is that they are not being reused so they fall into decay. Vancouver is lucky in that we only had two build two major new venues. The Whistler ski jump will have the same fate as there is absolutely no use for it here.

During the bidding process Olympic cities should be forced to summit a plan on how the venues will be used following the games. Since the IOC is supposed to be all about bringing up sport and future heroes to the world. One good thing out of the 2010 Van games was the Richmond Oval being turned into a multi sport facility. The speed track may never have been used but now kids can play almost any sport imaginable there.

The only issue with Vancouver Olympics is that the city went way over board on the village. There was several proposals for the village and that piece of land. The land was already owned by the city and had very little value as it was industrial land that needed remediating so putting the village on it was a good use. Several developers were asked to buy the land from the city and build the village. Millenium was the high bidder and partnering with the city and there green plan you get the Olympic village. It became a big cash cow for many companies during construction and now after huge money to keep the mechanical working.

If this was just designed to be a mixed use building with both permanent and temp housing which I believe was Concerts proposal. It would have been a win win for everyone. The developer would build what can be sold not what the city wants
