I have just gotten home after a quadruple bypass and valve replacement. Went to emergency because of shortness of breath, thinking I would be there for several hours. And nearly 3 weeks later my world is upside down. (Just spent $450 on a months prescriptions - pooning budget dissappears.)

Jeez,

What happened to your plan to die in bed with a couple of sweet young hookers? What happened to your dream????
I was planning that for my 60th birthday next week (actually, I was planning it of my 90 birthday).

op, best of wishes for a speedy recovery

you'll have good days, and you'll have bad days. the bad days will get fewer with the passage of time. just set yourself achievable goals - don't expect to get better all at once. there will be days even 6 months from now when you'll wish they'd let you croak, but know it will pass and learn to enjoy the glorious good days for the miracle they are - for they are a miracle

and don't hang up those pooning clothes quite yet, viagra was originally deveoped as an experimental heart drug you know ;)

The gift of time and rest may be the best get well gift of all. Make sure to give yourself that gift.

Things are improving slowly. The big one is waiting for the sternum to heal, 6-8 weeks from surgery date (2 down). It's the one that prevents you from doing so much. Thanks for all the well wishes, gang.

My Dad had a valve (mechanical) done at 65 his was shot because of rheumatic fever as a kid. Three weeks after surgery he falls off a ladder land on the rungs and breaks 3 ribs (he was a nut!). He goes for xrays and the dude says the sternum looks "fresh" when did you have heart surgery, my Dad sheepishly replies 3 weeks ago. He was all about attitude, I asked him how long it took him to noticed a difference in his condition..he said when I woke up after surgery. He passed at 85 and rode his bike every where until he was 80.

Good luck with your recovery

Peace
