Oilers Hire Pat Quin

I like Pat Q, but I think he should stick to coaching and coaching only. He only wants and respects the bi, tough, neanderthal type of player that plays old time hockey. In today's NHL, speed kills, so he has to adapt better than he has in the past. One or two skilled speedsters just won't cut it imo.
What a stupid move.
Anytime you hire someone associated w/ the Canucks' bad-curse franchise, is going to suffer the consequences. They have no track record of any success, in terms of winning Cups.
But i guess the CHs are just happy with having a winning season here and there. Yes, even with those OT extra points, is something to give CHs to cheer about.
Anyways, Brian Burke's 1st year, same for Steve Tambellini, what an idiot to hire out of loyalty. To think Quinn, who's also past his prime, is he really 66??? Is there anything useful he can teach the Oilers?
Didn't he suck here in Vancouver? How long ago was '94? And I dont count success in juniors either...we're talking about Cups in the NHL...and he hasn't won anything ever...in TO, he sucked too.
Canucks simply don't have any winning tradition compared to Montreal or Detroit.

He seemed to do pretty good coaching the Olympic and junior teams to gold medals and they don't play old school hockey so only time will tell how he does with the oilers.

I really don't understand why him & Mike Keenan keep getting hired, it's like they forget their past track records, and then a couple of seasons into it, they go, "Oh yeah, riiiiiight..... he sucks! I forgot..."

Pat Quinn is a pretty good bench boss and is well respected around the league, while Renney is an excellent technical coach who tends to wear out his welcome. I think they could complement each other if they can co-exist long enough. Renney is suppose to take over from Quinn either at the end of Quinn's contract or should Quinn choose to retire. In any case, they are probably both better coaches than MacTavish.

You know BJ, the more I read your so called hockey posts the more I am convinced that you know f-all about hockey. True hockey fans cheer for their team through the good and bad. Not so fast.... Quinn has shown he can adapt and turn teams around. The Leafs were a wreck when Quinn arrived in '98, made the Conference final twice ('99 and '02), posted record seasons, and only failed to get out of the first-round once ('03). I'm not saying they were ever a Cup contender, but they were a solid team between 1999 and 2004 under Quinn. That aside, winning Olympic and World Junior championships haven't hurt either; I don't think he has any problems with speed.
Well, compared to Montreal and Detroit - few teams do.

They are getting a solid coach and a good hockey guy, but need better management imo. Exactly... I take a lot of flack for being a Wings fan - I never heard the end of it when they were swept by Anaheim in 2003 - and I am sure you have had enough of being ribbed this year, Wilde, but you hit the nail on the head. A true fan sticks by their team no matter what...
