Oiler's Consecutive Loss Record

The Oiler's losing streak extends to 11 games.

Quote from the AP wire:

"Raffi Torres scored for injury-plagued Edmonton, which tied the 1993-94 team's record for consecutive losses. The Oilers, who are missing 10 players, earned a point in an overtime loss to St. Louis on Saturday, but are three losses short of their franchise-record 14-game winless streak - also set during the 1993-94 season."

What's the difference between a team record (11) and a franchise record
(14), both set in the same season?

The lights were on but nobody was home for a while. I forgot about the games where they kissed the sister.

What's also scary the flames might not make the playoffs if they continue to lose. LOL somewhere out there Julia would cry her eyes out if the flames miss the playoffs:eek:

Back in 93-94 the NHL still had ties so if they lost 11 then tied 1 it would end their losing streak but not their winless streak. I'm just glad they didn't pick the game against the Canucks to snap their streak.

Oops missed your reply to your own post.

As a dedicated Oiler fan it's the worst possible finish....lose Smyth, haven't won a game since. Last years finals are like another world.

Jeesh, it does seem like a long time ago, eh? Well, just look at the positives..um...er....Calgary and Carolina are both fighting for a spot, so that should at least make you feel a little better? Arch-nemesis and Cup rival?

Time to dismantle.
Oops! The team has already dismantled it seems.
Any tradeables left? Any young prospects rising in the pipeline?

u guys see 2 fans behind players bench?
guy #1 had canucks jersey
guy #2 had oilers jersey.
i thought why the hell they so chummy
turn out the oiler jersey actually says "losers".
i was quite the impressed.
Ha Ha that's funny.....not;) I take comfort only in the fact that the Canucks will do the same thing in the playoffs as they always do....which is fade away...the ice shrinks in the playoffs and sisters will play like every other European (star) and I use that term loosely.....they start getting knocked all over the ice and the fight goes out of em....it will take more than Luongo to put them in a Cup final and actually win it!!

Edmonton, Canada - A seven year old boy was at the centre of an Edmonton

courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over who

should have custody of him.

The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge

initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with the child custody

law and regulations requiring that family unity be maintained to the

degree possible.

The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him

more than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her.

When the judge suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy

cried out that they also beat him.

After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning

that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the

judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who

should have custody of him.

After two recesses to check legal references and confer with child

welfare officials, the judge granted temporary custody to the Edmonton

Oilers, whom the boy firmly believes are not capable of beating anyone

Oilers don't have a lot of depth and could have got it from the Chris Pronger trade to Anaheim. Considering what other teams got for unrestricted free agents last month, Kevin Lowe got hosed.

Hard to tell yet.
Lupul had a bad year but he's still quite young. He has learn to deal with the pressure of being a Pronger trade return and being in front of a hometown crowd.
Smid played quite well for a rookie.
And who knows who they'll get with the 2 or 3 first-round draft picks?

As for Smyth, the team wasn't playing that well even before the trade, so I question how much of a loss he was to the team. What's been plaguing them all year have been all the injuries. A good number of those injuries were inflicted by opposing players, which is why I think Georges Laraque's departure has been a bigger loss than anticipated.

And hey, at least they won last night so the losing streak is finally over.

is this 'effect' really any different from what happened in the NFL
when a salary cap was implemented?

franchise teams went from winners to losers and even the much
heralded 'Manning' and the Colts took a relatively long time to
get to the Superbowl.

and when you look at how long and how many games are played
to get to the Stanley Cup final, its no wonder Edmonton is no
where to be see ... they got beat on by Carolina and didn't
have much time to recover.

its bad enough that teams have to play 82 meaningless games
just to get to the finals and then play nearly another 20+ to get
to the finals ...

nuts.
