With all the recycling propaganda I've seen over the last 30 years, we are no further ahead than we were 30 years ago. Oh sure we separate some of the stuff for recycling, but mostly we do the work at home when we used to do just throw it in the garbage.
Why? I am still throwing plastic bags in the garbage, because the recycling dosen't take them. There is a whole section of what the company doesn't take for recycling, mostly because they can't make a profit from them, so that stuff ends up in the dump.
Kinda makes you think you are being scammed by the system.
Before Covid-19 stores were charging you for plastic bags, now they are given away free, because the stores don't want your own bags coming into the store and handling them. Reversal...
In the past there were recyclables that were sent overseas, (because it was cheaper to dump it there), now I suspect that those same companies would just easily dump it into the ocean (but with the added response to weighing it down to sink it to the bottom of the ocean.
News is the past years included dumping in the Philippines, India and China. Now those countries are stopping this trend. Where does this garbage and recyclables go... into the landfill because there is nowhere else to put it.
So now the smart people have to implement a plan for the stuff that we as a society are not recycling. Every thing is recyclable, its just a matter of perspective and what city wants to stink because of the products being recycled.

One story, was a high school girl in Alberta (as a science project), came up with a way to recycling/reclaim by products of the Tar Sands. It was in the news in the last couple years, never heard about it again. Was it implemented, or did it just die.

So with this post Covid-19 world will Canada being doing some research on how better to recycle our garbage and waste?

Another thing is food waste. So food waste in my area is picked up every 2 weeks. Enough time to decompose in the plastic container. The compostable bags leak when this happens, creating a mess, and making the container smell. Well I guess its out of the garbage bags.

So are we ahead, or slowly still drowning in our garbage and waste?
