In his acceptence speech Mr. (No Class) Campbell said nothing of the NDP at all. That reflects very badly on him.
He got his butt kicked, they lost 30 seats!!!!
Just shows what kind of a person he is.

54% of the people who voted did not vote for him!!!!!!

Pretty sad.

Really, which speech did you listen to?

You are correct if you are referring to the speech that he made in his riding, but are mistaken if you are referring to the speech made at the Liberal election headquarters.

In the speech that he made at the convention center he actually thanked both Carol James and Adrianne Carr by name and mentioned the losses that his party had, as well as mentioning the strengthend opposition.

yeah, he gave a quick speech at his riding office down on the westside before heading downtown where he did his full speech.

Speaking of sad....
Butt kicked? Let's see, he WON the election and wasn't relegated to TWO LOUSY SEATS. I'm sure more politicians would appreciate a good butt kicking like that! Don't mistake votes for balance in Victoria as votes for the NDP. If there was a true third party, the Liberals still would have won most, if not all, of what they did while the NDP wouldn't have.

Spoken like a true unbiased media reporter.

The last I heard, Campbell is going to be the Premier for the next four years. If that's having your butt kicked, I hate to see how you would describe James' or Carr's evening.

The BC Liberals lost how many seats last night? About 30? There was no doubt the Liberals were going to lose seats, especially when they won 77 of 79 in the last election. A lot of the pundits had the Liberals winning over 50 seats, but in the end they fell well short of that. Added to that is the huge increase in the popular vote for the NDP, across the province. Talk about a quick turnaround. I would have thought at least another election, perhaps two, before the NDP were in a good position to win government.

Yes Campbell and his right-wing coalition won another majority, but is not that big of a majority. The Liberal whip is going to be a very busy person for the next 4 years.

bottom line is that there is now an official opposition and a much better balance ... it will also make Campbell take notice of his own party members and their actions -- he doesn't have the depth of potential cabinet he did before.

he has also lost some of his moderates and that will be more telling this time around.

BTW: if you look at the results of at least 3 ridings, if the green vote had gone NDP they would have had the seats!

My question: what do the Liberal supporters want to see in this province?

The economy is putatively 'booming' but there are lots of people who are not benefitting from that boom at all. We have gone from a resource economy that at least paid decent wages to a service industry that pays $8 an hour ... we don't manufacture anything here (including our own ferries) but on $8 an hour we are expected to buy the crap imported from China for resale so some business can make money on the price difference ... and other than exporting logs we export what exactly???

Doesn't seem like much of an economy to me ... particularly when it is ALL based on external factors such as interest rates and construction of residential housing that is rapidly approaching unaffordability, particularly when you only make $8 an hour.

So Please ... explain to me what you expect this Liberal Government to do that will actually make anyone's life better, that will keep the economy booming (they have no impact on interest rates) and solve many problems that are also external to this province (health care is a federal jurisdiction).

I hate to make remarks about perb posters.. but that comment is so typical NDP! not keeping and open mind and listening to ALL FACTS!

What speech did you listen to ? I think all the candidates did a very good job making congrats to rival parties... maybe the most sportsmanship ever seen in a Provincial debate... in fact I think Gordo's comments were the best of t 3 main leaders...

He admited that having a large NDP would create debate but would be best for the Province as out of debate you get th best decision ...

Mano man .... erk! .. I would not want to be Carol James though with this team.. Other than Kwan.. she is going to have more problems controling her group than having time to fight Gordo ..and a big win for them Yes of course.. from 2 seats you can only go up .. I am happy for them in many ways...

but man don't post without facts, and if you make an opinion stat it not in a factual form

And the Green vote .. why do people assume they would go NDP ?

On green issues, James and Gordo actually agree on most topics.

From us Liberal supporters,

By creating an economy and creating opportunity brings in revenue to pay for social services you cannot do the reverse.

Credited to the NDP:

Introduced 5 separate fiscal management plans - not one target outlined in those plans were met.
In nearly every category - deficits, debt management and spending - the NDP missed their promises, year after year.
Introduced 8 consecutive deficit budgets, including two "fudge-it" budgets.
Tax and spend policies reduced BC to “have-not” status

Doubled taxpayer supported debt in less than a decade.
Increasing debt resulted in $2.6 billion a year being spent on interest costs.
Debt-GDP ratio increased dramatically - by 20% in less than a decade.

Left a $3.8 billion structural deficit.
Countless missed budget forecasts and two “fudge-it” budgets.
After 8 consecutive deficit budgets, the NDP balanced budgets 2 times in a decade - once due to windfall energy returns from California's energy crisis and once due to accounting changes.

BC had the highest personal income tax rates in Canada.
Imposed $2 billion worth of new taxes on everything from personal to corporate income.
Fees, royalties and taxes had increased roughly 1.5 times faster than British Columbians’ pre-tax incomes.
In the 1992-1999 period, the government increased spending from $17.2 billion to $22.2 billion - over 30% increase. Spending increased faster than the ability to pay for programs.
NDP Finance Minister Paul Ramsey admitted they had made no provision for paying for all of the spending commitments they made in the run-up to the 2001 election. On Page 95 of the 2001 Budget Report: “Fully funding all these pressures would not be possible given the forecast increase in revenue."

massageseeker ...

1. said 'if' the vote had gone to ndp instead of green ... didn't say it would have

2. ok, so you slagged the ndp's record ... still nothing about what the Liberals have done or will do to make things better for everyone.

3. get off reagenomics ... the trickle down theory doesn't work and never has, never will.

Well, let's see. The Liberals did slash personal & small business corporate tax. Make less then $300k and your corporation is only paying out 17-18%. They also slashed capital gains tax, it is now the lowest in the country. These factors have encouraged business to return to BC and in turn helped to lower unemployent #'s( yes, I'll admit the housing boom also contributed to lower unemployment)
All they got to do now is kicked more crack heads off welfare, and I'm a happy camper.

At your request Lonely Ghost:

Met or exceeded every significant budget target.
Deficit/Surplus targets were exceeded in every budget.
Significant tax reductions throughout the term.
Debt targets were exceeded in every budget.
Spending targets were met in every budget, including significant funding increases in health care and education

A record $1.7 billion pay-down of debt.
Debt-to-GDP ratio has decreased by over 10% and will continue to go down over the next three years.

Introduced significant tax relief - for net relief of over $1.5 billion.
Significantly improved the competitiveness of BC industries, leading to economic renewal and best job creation record in Canada.
730,000 low income British Columbians will pay lower taxes - including 330,000 who will now pay no tax.

Provided a clear plan to get spending under control, protect and increase funding for health care and education, and balance the budget.
Increased funding in health care by $3.8 billion since 2001.
Increased education funding by $2 billion since 2001

Credit upgrades from Standard & Poors, Moody's and Dominion Bond Rating Service.
Credit rating agencies cited the BC Liberal government's consistent achievement of budget targets, declining debt-to-G.D.P., and B.C.’s robust economy.
Significant interest cost savings

I'd do Gordon Campbell lol :D

I'm happy about the outcome too, but I can't make sense of your 54 year claim. Where did that come from?

slashed personal income taxes and increased the Medical Services premiums which hurts low-income earners more than the rich who got bigger personal income tax breaks.

at the same time, took physiotherapy, massage therapy, chiropractic off the MSP ... changed pharmacare to be more expensive which hurts both seniors and the disabled.

let insurance premiums skyrocket and then paid out bonuses that were not earned or deserved -- should have plunked it into a contingency fund and lowered premiums ... again, hurts low-income earners.

raised the 'homeowner grant' for expensive houses when they could have done away with the property transer tax for low-income people.

yup, these fuckers are REALLY good to us ...

Oh please...No Government is going to make everybody happy. Why don't you try looking at the positives for once. It makes life better for everybody around you, most importantly yourself.
I agree, but why does this government have to pick on the poor, the sick, the elderly, the disabled? Is their hatred of the NDP so great that they have to hurt those who already hurts? Doesn't one Liberal supporter have one bit of compassion for anyone else?

Personally if Stephen Harper Ever becomes Prime Minister i will become an American for those terms. Good on ya Belinda Stronach! lol
Thankfully that will never happen. Harper has alienated enough potential "red" Conservative voters by his attempts at forcing an election and his stand on gay marriage. The only way the Conservatives win an election is with a somebody else at the helm.

In a nice wet pussy!
The more things change......................

The Greens look bad this time, because a lot of NDP supporters couldn't stomach to vote Liberal the last time, and parked their votes with the Greens. Now that the toilet is flushed, the Left came back to restore the balance of polarity that existed in the past.

As for Harper, he will never get his time in the sun. I hear a lot of folks in the Media who say he is bilingual, so he should appeal to French Canadians. Harper's French is so bad, and I mean real bad, Quebecers must be laughing every time he opens his trap. The same goes for Layton. When will those idiots ever learn? And that is my point. Until the Tories field another French speaking candidate for the throne, they are whistling Dixie. He ain't got a snowball's chance in Hell of winning.

It doesn't work!

Hmmmm..........

Let's compare the last 15 year economic performance of the United States (isn't that where Reagan was Prime Minister - I mean President) to the last 15 year economic performance of Germany and France.

Huh? Reagan was president from 82-88 -- nearly twenty years ago since he retired. Clinton was president during 8 years of the past 15.
