I'm really hoping that the season gets cancelled because I want to see BUTTHEAD go down as the only Pro Sport Commissioner to cancel a seaon due to a (IMO a so-called Labour Dispute)
IMO the NHLPA is just that an Association not a union. If they are a union are they recognized by the Labour Relations Board? Are they members of the BC Federation of Labour? Are they members of the Canadian Labour Council?

I also think the Tanslink Board has been to a few NHL Owners meetings. The owners won't accept anything less than 'cost certainty' and Tranlink won't accept anything less than a tunnel route for the RAVage line.

NHLPA is not registered in any Province or State as a Union.. They are screwed... It is just going to get worse for them as time goes on especially if they bring in replacement players.

Despite Bettman been an idiot he is now just doing what the majority of the owners want (or like any business owner would want) and that is cost certainty...

The labour dispute is a lockout. Watch the media carefully, whenever there is a strike the media will say strike. But when it is a lockout more often than not the media will say labour dispute instead of lockout.

What gets to me is that even the lowest paid player will make more in a season than most of us will make in a lifetime ...

I think that the players could help themselves more by having some of the money that the owners make in revenue put in a seperate trust fund to pay for injuries and retirement rather than for over-blown salaries for a couple dozen players.

The players could also demand that cost-certainty also mean fewer games ... that rules are uniformly enforced ... that there is revenue sharing from the playoffs ... maybe that would provide some incentive to play again.

For the owners, each one should have to write a cheque for $50 million at the beginning of each season and send it to the league and have them pay out the expenses for each team. this way there would be open books for everyone to see how the money is spent.

what the owners then take in on revenue is their business until the playoffs when they start writing cheques to the league again.

and if the players don't like it they can try their hand at asking someone if they want fries with that at the drive thru window ...

Long shot but perhaps this lockout may benefit current non NHL cities like Winnipeg....Tough to see how the southern US cities will survive. I have a friend with the Predators in Nashville and have seen 1/2 dozen games there. Finally made the playoffs last year and now where has all that momentum gone. Wish them and other franchises well but I suspect we will see some changes.

Then of course, how many of us make 100 G a year? It would take us 10 years of hard (year round) work at that rate to make a mil. Not too much sympathy for players here. More feelings for the Bobby Orrs, Guy Lafleurs, Gordie Howes, Rocket Richard, Dave Keon, etc. Most players these days would not be good enough to lace up any of those boys never mind play with them.

The highest paid players who run the union aren't worried most of them are playing for good money on russian mafia teams. There will be a chance to get things going again this summer when the lower paid players start to revolt.

Most of the players playing in Europe are making $100,000.00 for the season. Makes me wonder why they would consider holding out against a cap when the average salary in the NHL would be 1.3 million instead of 1.8 million.

let's see $1,300,000.00 less $100,000 (europe) = $1,200,000 ahead of the game.

Humm........

The players need to realize that it is the owners that are taking the risk of running a business and they would atleast like to make some profit. How many times have ordinary joe's like you and I that work for companies like Air Canada, Car Makers and other industries given in to companies demands for cost-certainty to keep the company running? The only difference here is that this NHL boys are making more in one year than we make in a life time. Therefore, I have no sympathy for the players at all. Let them rot in Europe for all I care.
