wow....

there are sure a lot of stooges for the owners in the comments on that story.

Find it amazing how many people support the multi-multi millionaire owners over the merely millionaire players. Particularly since the players have already offered up a quarter of their salaries, across the board.

A lot of those players are multi-millionaires, too; and some (Gretzky,Lemieux) go on to be multi-milliuonaire owners. If the players, almost right out of the chute are willing to give up 24% it tells me even they realize they are way, way too overpaid for the fringe sport they play.

Stickdoctor,

The issue at hand isn't about millionare owners having more than the players. It's a common sense issue of sustainability and viability as a business. Only a few teams within the NHL are sustainable at those salaries. And the success of the NHL overall as a whole is dependent on a majority of teams being financially successful. The current structure is a failure.

Most of the owners of NHL teams did not achieve their wealth through ownership of an NHL club. Their wealth afforded them the luxury and prestige of owning a professional sports club.

I really don't miss NHL hockey, nor do I care if it ever returns.

I'm actually excited to go see the WHL in Winnipeg tonight (Brandon vs Calgary at MTS CENTRE).

These two sides have made a mess in their own bed. Now they have to sleep there.

The NHL is a business which the objective is to make money. Just call this corporate restructuring, happens all the time in the business world. The owners are the ones putting their money at risk for owning the team. They should be allowed to do whatever they want to increase the profitability of their business. I think the players are out-of-touch with reality. Their salaries rival the NBA which probably generates double/triple the revenue with TV, Mechandising, etc.

I second the WHL aspect, I went and got a pair of season tickets to the Hitmen. Way better hockey and more interesting knowing they are in it to make it to the bigs or for the love of the game.

You guys are absolutely right it can't go on as it was, but a lockout....for f$#k sake, the owners created this mess when they brought in free agency.
They wanted more than the limited free agency that only made marquis players available in the twilight of their careers. The owners saw it as a chance to buy a championship, and they drove the salaries out of sight.
In my opinion they should have thanked the nhlpa for
their kind offer and jumped on it.

I agree that the owner created this problem but they also have the right to fix it. Just like when a company fu**ed up, the CFO/CEO is getting the boot by the shareholders and choose a new guy to correct the problems.

Without taking sides, I think the players owe it to the fans to at least vote on the current offer. I cannot accept that 3-8 guys have the final say in the rejections. I'd bet if it came down to a vote the majority of the players would rather have a salary cap than no season:Þ

Re: Hockey...

Can someone please explain "icing" to me? It's been a long time since I've watched a hockey game... and I forget what it means.

Instead of a salary cap they should make the puck bigger so you can see it TV.

Trivia Challenge...who was the first player ever to be drafted in the NHL and what team drafted him?

Later,
bobsled.
