I am planning to purchase a new truck and need some input from the board. After much research I have narrowed my selected down to a Ford. The salesman is pressuring me hard to buy or I will miss out on the "special employee pricing deal" which ends August 31. I am not in the position to make a commitment for at least another month. Does anyone know if the "special employee pricing deal" is really special or will the price be the same a month later.

Thanks in advance!

The North American car companies are hurting, but Ford seems to be feeling the pinch the least, but still hurting. I would not worry about it because there will always be another promo and the "employee pricing" promo will be back soon. Never fall for a salesman's pitch like that.

You should tell him you will have to miss the deal, so you are looking elsewhere now, and watch him start working you to keep you at the dealership. Pricing may drop or he may magically find out when the next event is, some sort of a deal. Don't be pressured by sales guys like that. Lots of good car deals out there, especially if you live in a larger center.

I've found it helpful when buying a new car to also check with one of the leasing companies that are independent and can get you almost any kind of vehicle you want - often at far better cost than from a dealer. This is because they often have arrangements with a number of dealers through their 'fleet department" and are purchasing at fleet pricing rates rather than normal retain. There's a few around, and I once used Pro Group Leasing in Burnaby who actually got me a reasonable discount on a new vehicle that had just been released and none of the dealers were prepared to discount from full retail. Another time, when negotiating with a salesman at a dealership I told him I had also been speaking to Pro Group and another leasing company (can't recall the name) and they were looking at a couple optional vehicles for me. The salesman then went to speak to their fleet manager and came back with a much, much lower price than he was talking about before I dropped this on him. Do your homework and talk to several dealers and leasing companies (leasing companies can sell direct to you and not just lease) before you buy and you'll have a much better idea of the cost you should be paying and the discounts you can receive. But make sure you get prices on a comparable basis (i.e. same options and including same "dealer packs" re documentation fee, PDI, Freight, etc. since some add them on later, whereas the leasing guys tend to give you prices with them already included).

Good luck and have fun with your new vehicle.

There's a good piece of advice on the day Toyota recalls another 1.13 million vehicles, which makes it 11 million since last November.:D

interesting... bought a 2 yr old 2002 f150, drove it HARD for 5 yrs. Only left me stranded once due corroded battery terminal and the differential called it quits at 305000km. New bearings and on she rolls. At 313700 km the brakes went and got a miss in the engine.
I only had 3 days off, and no time to fix, so went and bought an 06 F150 K.R.

Talked to guy I sold the first one too, he got it running and gave it to his kid.

I guess what I'm trying to say is..... Fords ROCK.
And I used to be all about imports before I bought my trucks.

This time of the year generally speaking is a very good time to wheel and deal as dealerships clear out inventory for the 2011s. One promotion will end and a new one will be right behind it. Be patient, you will get your price

I would suggest buying in the USA....all you have to do is pay the GST/duty when you come back and then get the daytime running lights hooked up...pass a provincial inspection which the vehicle will and then register it...hell even check on Ebay and look for a 2008/2009 model of the truck you want and you will save even more....there are some pretty big used car dealers on Ebay and you get the benefit of a Carfax report....this could save you 10-15 grand....money that can joyfully be spent on pooning.

Oh yeah and good choice with Ford....their trucks ROCK....I bought my first brand new truck in 2002 and in 5 years I clocked 310,000 Km's....I had to replace the clutch slave cylinder at 125,000.....a brake job somewhere around 170,000 and I got 256,000 Km's out the stock clutch and in fact still had 30% left to go on the preasure plate but the release bearing went and to replace just the bearing would have been stupid as the labour was the same.....Ford trucks ROCK.

Will a USA dealer sell me a brand new truck? Also will a Canadian Ford dealer honour the warranty of a truck purchased in the USA?

Thanks

A USA Ford dealership will bend over backwards to sell yo a truck....one thing you do experience at american auto dealerships is one thing we dont get much of here....and that is customer service...as for the warranty I should expect any dealership to honour it in Canada as the truck was most likely made in the USA and shipped here...I know that my truck was made in Twin Cities Minnesota and it came with a warranty...though I clocked enough Km's in 1 year and the warranty was useless as nothing went wrong with the truck.

I know a fellow miata enthusiast who found the exact car he wanted in Pennsylvania....he talked to a salesman and made sure the car was still available and negotiated a price to reflect his expenses of plane ticket/accomodations etc....he flew there and a dealership employee met him at the airport and drove him to the dealership...he walked in the door and the salesman gave him the keys....a test drive....took care of paperwork in very little time and with no additional fees and the dealership even got him temporary insurance....off he goes in his new car on a roadtrip back home...hits the border and pays GST/duty...gets the DRL's done and a provincial inspection...gets it registered...all told including travel expenses/GST/duty/DRL's/inspection his new car cost him $27,000....EVERY Mazda dealership in Calgary wanted $42,000 + GST/document fees and they would not budge even when he showed them the numbers....first place he stopped when the car had a new plate on it was at a Mazda dealership to rub some salt in the salesman's wounds LOL

And if you do buy a truck from the USA make sure you make a 4 day roadtrip out of it and thusly get your $750 worth of DUTY free exemption.

Hope this helps.

If you buy a car in us , you cannot finance or lease right ?
Well #1 why would you want to lease a vehicle...if you go over the KM's for the lease you get dinged and if you buy out the lease you get hit with the CBP...Crippling Balloon Payment at the end...as for financing that can easily be arranged...good credit = good credit and it is not like there is some invisible barrier at the border that magically shuts down your credit score....if Canadians can buy a house in the USA with 10% down they sure as shit can get a car/truck financed by an American manucturer that is hungry for business.
