I miss the days of Grand Prix motorcycle racing when they rode 500cc two stroke bikes. Those things were awesome, light and made crazy power.
I knew a nurse back in Calgary who lived below me in an apartment. Mary Tyler Moore type building in the 70's. She was working in Foothills Hospital. Her ward was full of "19 to 20 year old, young, good looking guys" who were now paraplegics if they were lucky. some were quadriplegics . All from motorcycle accidents. Not trying to be a bummer or anything, but when I see the sheer balls to the wall way most bikers ride, going up to Squamish, I fear for them. And it's usually spinal injuries.
Probably a bit of an exaggeration. My ex worked on unit 112 which is head trauma spinal cord injury ward at the foothills for close to 20 years. She never brought home stories of the ward being full of young guys paralyzed from motorcycle accidents. It happened occasionally but certainly not an epidemic of motorcycle accident victims all the time.I knew a nurse back in Calgary who lived below me in an apartment. I have encountered Morons with the jacked up Diesel trucks that love to roll coal on bikes and leave you in a cloud of soot, these idiots will race you while towing trailers on interstates. When your bike is fully loaded with all your gear and passenger on a road trip a stock engine just doesn’t cut it, since I have upgraded to max power for my model I can rock past all these assholes and get in the clear. A motorcycle course helps teach you how to establish a safety box around your bike, I prefer to always get clear of traffic and ride at a safe speed in your own zone. Let the crotch rockets speed past you and always shoulder check for them before lane changes, those guys can come out of nowhere and are a road hazard.I was riding home from work one day, I was in the curb lane and stopped at a red light. Perhaps a half block ahead of me I noticed a car was in my lane blocking it I looked over at the car beside and I could tell the old fool driving it was going to race me when the light turned green to try and prevent me from getting ahead of him and cutting into his lane. Forget what kind of car it was, some sort of bigger Detroit model.
The light turned green and the old guy floored it while I took off at a pretty good rate. I could hear his engine pinging like nothing I ever heard before surprised it didn’t throw a rod. I of course beat him easily and pulled into his lane long before I got to the parked car. Some stop light racing to liven things up a bit.
