it will flash 3 times and then turn off.

I`ve tried everything i could find on-line and now I am looking for a reputable tv repair person. I bought it here on perb for $600, no remote. (dumb me, i know) https://perb.cc/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=110136

hammerr6 said he would replace it the next day, then changed his cell number. *sigh*

It looks brand new and sometimes it will work fine for a week but now it won`t stay on for more than 20 min. Someone said it may have been a display model with 1000`s of hours on it. So I may need a new fuse or power cord?

So if someone could point me in the right direction i would really appreciate it.

Should I call future shop? or???? no warranty (dumb me, I know)

I wouldn't bother calling a store like FutureShop or Best Buy, especially if you bought it through someone here on Perb.

If I were you, I'd contact LG directly (if you Google them, you should be able to find a contact number/email address on there). Here's a few things to check:

1) Make sure it's well ventilated...it could be overheating and shutting off
2) It could also be a problem with the fan (I think there's a fan in those TV's)

If it's anything else, you could be screwed (and not in the pleasant Perb-type way...lol) and it might end up being a better deal to just buy a new TV :(

Well it still turns on and everything works fine, then it flashes 3 times then turns off. So i'm thinking its the fan. ( I made sure the sleep timer is off and the date is set).

I have it on its own table at an angle so it has plenty of ventilation.

I am thinking it must be the fan, because even after 5 minutes of being on it turns off, is much too hot when I feel the back. And it sounds like a car engine being turned off clicking and clucking after a long trip.

I was just quoted $200 for an LG approved store in burnaby to pick it up, give me an estimate, then drop it off, assuming its the fan. Should I do it? Thanks slyguy stare electronics just quoted me $200 plus parts..

is that reasonable/ hmmm I will call around some more. *sigh*

give Eltek Electronics a call also, see what they say...

you might as well throw another two to three hundred dollars at it to see if you can get it running...

you ladies make that in an hour anyways;)...

but yea, your right, anybody who buys anything off this board other than sex should put a bag over their head:cool:...

You could buy a new 42" Plasma or LCD for less than 600 bucks now a days. Might not even be worth fixing as something else could go wrong if you fix this problem. Sometimes, it's not worth throwing good money after bad.

Best Buy, Costco have some really good deals right now on TV's. Also the Canadian Dollar is so strong right now, consider buying on a day trip to Bellingham.

To test if it is fan vs. power supply, try this: turn it on and see how long it takes to turn itself off. Then, before it gets a chance to cool, try it again. If it powers off sooner the second time, it is probably turning off from overheating. If it powers off at somewhat random intervals, it is more likely power supply.

I have heard of so many big screen TVs dying these days for no reason, it seems they are making them more and more cheaply. Pretty soon they will become disposable appliances, much like printers and scanners -- the cost to fix will not be worth it relative to the price of buying a new one.

For what it's worth, even if hammer advertised the TV as worth $1600 brand new, that doesn't mean that you got all the great a deal. TVs progress so fast these days it was probably really only a $900 TV.

1. Talk to a repair company and ask them to check who sold the machine
2. Call the seller and say you are sure it was purchased with extended warranty.
3. When they say no, tell them to show you the bill of sale.
4. Write down hammerr6 name address, and phone number.
5. Call him at supper time while he is sitting down with his wife and tell him you would like to meet with him
6. Pick up your refund.

Problem solved

Some of the LG`s were recalled> Made in China. You might want to call LG and see if your specific model is one of them.
Cheers

Seattlemike. If I can find someone to fix it for $100 plus parts, i'm gonna go for it. if not I will just buy a new one. *sigh*

SlyDevil: the guy who answered the phone doesn't speak good english, I couldn't understand what he thought the problem may be.

Threepeat; i am trying this advice right now.

Nina: Thanks so much nina. You are such a sweetie. but ya that was the first thing I tried. making sure the sleep timer was off and the time/date set.

Luv2lick: Picture is perfect, it was never lay down in my care. It is brand new. I made sure it is plugged straight to the wall with the new powercord it came with. I did everything on-line I could find including calling LG. yes sleep timer was first option I made sure was off.

amanut: did that, it was future shop. re-read my original reponse. scammer changed his number day after.

Im cumming. What good would that do? even if it is re-called?

jc1; Thanks. I've had no problems with any of the other LG products I have bought and used so maybe it is just this brand of flatscreen. grrrr

I remember that people used to buy an identical item, and then "return" the broken one.
But I'm not sure how vigilant stores are in trying to prevent that tactic from being used.

TV's have serial numbers but good idea.

Post in the help wanted section under repair. Bet it is fixed in a week!

I could come by and jiggle the wires and bang on the side:)

I bought a 40 inch LCD 1080 from Future Shop just over a year ago for about $250 more then you spent.
My TV is in a stand that doesn't have much ventalation and it seems to be on almost all the time. I like it for background noise. I know I'm probably running the life out of it but, hey!
I think what a lot of people are saying it is possibley a recall, or your timer. Seems awfully weird though.
I personally would just go and buy a brand new one, they don't really cost much more then you spent, and has warranty and even a remote.
