Ok, ok already. I have received enough complaints regarding our music that we play. So I relent:eek: What type of music do you like to hear when you go in for a massage? I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

Why not provide small boomboxes in each room with a few different CD's so that the customer can decide? The boomboxes are pretty inexpensive nowadays. Personally I don't care for music at all, but if I had to listen to something I would probably pick some instrumental music, just not muzak.

stryker, desidio runs Great Pharoah MP.

Right now we are playing Rest and Relaxation music. I have heard it referred to as "funeral music" Never really thought it sounded like that, but I guess it may be time for a change.

Dub and drum and bass are great. You want something that is basically sexy but is also wallpaper. Rap is right out. Playing the radio on any station is right out (too many interruptions).

I've never heard classical in an MP. Might be interesting :)

I wonder if anyone has written music specifically for this purpose?

I often have my ipod along - maybe on the aforementioned boomboxes you could have a line input so we can plug in and play whatever we're in the mood for...

Then again, I'm usually not paying attention but some days the R&B really does cut into the session.

I was at GP once back in March, and recall the music then being not too obtrusive, (no vocals, fairly uniform in tone) but could see it could get boring if you're a regular there. At Manhattan Men's Club in Edmonton they had the in- room boom boxes (as well as in-room showers). The only problem with each room having it's own music is the competing noise when it's too loud.
I would suggest having some of your best customers being allowed to submit their own mix CD's, that way you please the people who are most important. (or you could ask the girls what they like to listen to).
Suggestions about what works: Enigma, Sade (excellent for an MP, all of her albums work well as is), Massive Attack, Cowboy Junkies, Portishead, Depeche Mode, Roxy Music, Prince (both classic 80's and his last 2 new albums), Madonna (I hesitate to recommend that, after being subjected to Erotica continuously at Broadway Body Care. I was beginning to think that's all they had).
Whatever you play, don't mix up the music, it's better to play out an entire CD before going on to the next, to avoid jarring changes in tone.

Thank you everyone for your help, there is DEFINATELY going to be some changes in the music. I am going to incorporate everyones ideas, such as boom boxes in each room with a choice of music, and play a special someones (thank you Euro_SZabina) suggestions on the central system (disconnecting it from the rooms), in the common areas. Once again, thank you!!
