Probably way off topic here, but this is general discussion. Anyone know of a good(cheap prices) wheel and tire shop in Edmonton? Need some new tires for the truck and I feel like I am getting screwed over at $450-550 per tire. They are fairly large 38x15.5x18 Toyo M/T. Stepping down a size to 37x13.5x18, not sure about the brand yet. Don't know how many of you drive lifted trucks, but any help would be great.

BTW, Diesel prices suck! $1.20 or more per liter is crazy..wont stop me from driving the beast, just saying. For any US people reading this..that is $4.55 a gallon.

I have always had great service from Kal Tire. Not sure how they will be for your particular needs, but I like them.

Never thought of Costco. I will have to see if they can get the size I need. 37" tires arent that common. And I will check out Kal Tire. They cant be any worse than the Tire Warehouse. Most expensive place I have looked at.

Just got a new set of Nito Terra Grabbers for my F-250 Super Duty from Kal Tire. Great tire, a bit pricey!! But I do agree they do give you great service at KT. Haven't tried Costco but heard they do have better prices but not the same service.

Tires

I look after a fleet of company trucks and tire prices are very high these days. Truck manufactures are installing all different kinds of tire sizes on new trucks. With every new size that comes out tire manufactures need time to retool to make these sizes. Also, tire manufactures can not keep up to all the new sizes so they tend to only pick certain sizes in 17", 18" and 20" rims. We run Ford, Dodge, GMC trucks and it's a fucking nightmare to keep all these trucks on the road these days. And if a truck goes down out of town, then you are looking to hotshot tires out to them because local tire shops usually only stock 16" tires. I don't think you will be able to find tires any cheaper than $450 - $500 per tire for 18" rims. Tire warehouse is where I get my best deals from, and I have accounts at Kal tire, Tirecraft, etc. so i shop around everytime. If you do let me know, I am always looking

Well I did some running around today and I found some Mickey Thompson MTZ or ATZ for $526 and $495. That is from Take It Off Road on the yellow head. Kal Tire deals with Nitto, and the Mud Grappler is $542. That is all for 37x13.5x18. Now I need to decide if I want to keep my old 18" wheels with the chrome peeling off or step up to 20" wheels which makes all this tire pricing a moot point.

Why is everything up here so expensive. I know friends in the US who have gotten 40x15.5x22 toyo's for $200 per tire...wtf

#1 I doubt Costco would carry tires that size as they are a volume shop and huge ass tires even though we live in Alberta are far outnumbered by 'stock tires'.

#2 Sounds like you should plan to visit the US. Not like you will have to claim them to customs, just drive back at night and make sure they are muddy :D .

Yah I was thinking of a trip to the US. Would be around $400-600 cheaper going there and back with fuel+tires. Got some online shopping to find a tire shop near the border.

Let us know how it turns out!
Just order them in from the US. I did that with a set of high performance tires a couple of years back. They were $299/ea. here, they were $US104/ea. in the US (The Tire Rack). The cost, even after the lousy exchange rate at the time, Customs duties and taxes, and balancing on a Hunter GSP9700 machine was over $80/ea. cheaper.

Been shopping around online for some deals. Shipping is what kills the cheap prices. Everyone I talked to said that if they were closer to a stock size the shipping would be about half of what they are charging me. Need to use a freight company(size and weight?) as UPS/Fedex wont take it? I am getting to the point where I might just pay the crazy prices and get it over with.

Seen a crazy set of 24" Rockstar wheels with Khumo rubber. Didn't get a price(was afraid of the price) but damn they would look sweet on my truck.

Bloodrite:

Mine were 255/45YR-17s. I can't really say I know anything about truck tire sizes or dimensions so I probably don't know your situation, but mine were UPS shipped no problem. I had a bigger hassle with getting them mounted and balanced locally, than I did getting them shipped up here.

Really?? What kind of problems did you have? Which shops gave you grief and where did you finally go?
The Fountain Tire shop on McLeod Trail near Glenmore Trail wouldn't mount them at all. A couple of Kal-TIre stores turned me down, too. I ended up going to the big Fountain Tire location behind the Blackfoot Inn, near Blackfoot Trail. They eventually did a good job, but damaged one of my aluminum wheels when they were mounting the tires. They fixed everything at their own expense, offered a very sincere apology, and did a great job with the balancing when all was said and done.

Well the size you ordered is what saved you a lot of problems. The 255's probably weigh around 25 or 30lbs. Where as the tires I am looking at are around 80-90lbs each. I don't know a whole lot about the border crossing and shipping regulations these days. But back in the day(7 or 8 years ago) when I was a shipper/receiver anything over 75lbs was deemed freight and couldn't be picked up or delivered by ups/fedex.

I got fed up and placed an order for some Pro Comp XAT. A bit more than I wanted to pay(well a lot more), but my rear's are getting rather low so I couldn't wait. 4 tires = $2150..plus when I was there I fell in love with some wheels and ordered them up also for $1300. And I just put a stereo/alarm in for $4000. More money than brains..I think so.
