I am currently traveling abroad. One week ago, I was playing in a club, saw a cute little gal,,, naturally we had intercourse. I paid her. BBBJ and little kisses. I remembered I used protection. Therefore, I thought I should be ok. But my teeth have a little problem, that makes me worried.

However, one week later, I got cold, mild fever and diarrhea. These started driving me crazy... I understand the cold and fever since I've been tired these days and don't wear a lot. So, I took my pills, fever and cold were quickly gone the other day. But I don't know what caused diarrhea. It's about 2 days. Although I am feeling much better, the symtoms keep reminding me the hiv infection.

I guess need some engcouragement here before I get myself check up back home.

Thanks.

Hi favorEng

Sorry to hear that you are not feeling well.

It sounds like you are concerned that you may have contracted HIV. With what you have described it seems like you kissed, received unprotected oral sex and then had vaginal sex with a condom. Let me know if that is not correct.

We do not see HIV being passed with the type of sex you described. It is very common for people who get flu like illnesses after sex to think that they have contracted HIV. Fever and diarrhea are very common symptoms for many different conditions, especially when travelling.

What I usually tell people is not to worry about the symptoms in regard to HIV but to think of it as a reminder that they are worried about HIV because of a risk they had and that they should come in for a test. It can be difficult getting information from the internet, I have come to the conclusion that any symptom can be linked to HIV, no wonder people get so worried.

Other sexually transmitted infections like gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, genital warts and herpes could be transmitted from the sex that you described.

Here is a link to our risk chart which gives information on risk for infections based on what type of sex you are having.

If you do get any symptoms that do not go away or affect your genitals (hurts when you pee, discharge , open sores) I would recommend seeing a doctor where you are. If you feel fine you could come in for a check up when you get home (not sure how long you are going to be away).

Here is a link for the STI tests we recommend and how long you need to wait before getting tested.
