I feel that unless you live within the native culture you really have no idea what its like, if your getting all your "facts" from the newspaper, let me say this if all u read is the bad, and don't look for any of the good. that's all your gunna know. you cant compare rez natives to innercity natives, completely different lives. I don't go to tuxedo and say look at all these white ppl, why do they get to live so nice? why weren't their parents ripped away from their family's and placed in residential schools to be abused sexually and physically to have their culture try & be stripped away from them? why do I get to live with these now Victims of abuse only to be stuck in a vicious cycle of abuse? Our people and I say our people because we all live together, WERE abused. and the government of Canada only recently Apologised for that, an Apology doesn't erased what happened but at lease it was recognised. most victims can only try and cover it & try to forget that's why theres so much Drug & Alcohol abuse. our people were hurt by our country, and its an insult to say they don't deserve anything. I would brush up on our native history before generalizing all natives as being "not good people". I find most ignorant ppl don't wanna know about our culture. They look at gangs and think all native's are gang related, they look at the idea of treaty, and think all natives are treaty and have these privileges that non natives don't. listen, just cuz someone may be treaty doesn't mean their lives are any easier you actually have to work for those things, they arn't just given away like candy, as sum may believe. you have to prove your serious and jump thru hoops to get em And not everyone who applys gets funding for school gets it. just like every1 else you gotta put in serious work to get those grants. not all Natives are treaty, I actually know of some whites who happen to be treaty(thru their long dead ancestors) sum choose not to take advantage of it, sum do. I personally don't care as it doesn't affect my life. Im Metis, the last time I checked that only entitles me to my last year of university paid for, the first few years are on me to figure out and me alone. that's it. My Metis Id card, which u half to prove by getting a family tree done that your part native and at lease 18 to get, isn't even recognised by the Canadian government as being legal ID. But what can you do? nothing. So I choose not to worry about things that don't affect my life. As Im lucky enuff that my parents weren't in Residential schools and Arnt permanently fucked up bc of it and worked hard to take us out of poverty. In the end there are lots of different types of government type grants and discounts and stuff that all Canadians have access too, you just gotta look for it and work for it.
Native Women are the most Strongest women you will find. We are Smart, And Loyal to those who treat us with the same respect. Mutual respect goes a long way. I find Native women to be the most attractive. but preference is preference and it shouldn't have anything to do with anything else. otherwise your just being prejudice and talking about things you know nothing about. 2 can play that game.
