I have dealt with many of the Band Offices over the years through my job, and I can assure you, the majority of them are as crooked as a 3 dollar bill. Lots of money misuse, lots of 3rd party management because they don't know how to spend the money given to them, etc etc etc. It's not racist, it's a fact.
I didn't say their leadership wasn't corrupt, I said it pales in comparison to what goes on in the rest of Canada, off reserve. Are people from European backgrounds ethnically predisposed to ripping people off? Cheating at elections? Tax evasion? Selling people what they don't need? Using government funds inappropriately? Lying about their history? Justifying mass rape and murder? I wonder sometimes and I'm as white as a daisy. Read a goddamn history book or newspaper. The emphasis on their problems as solely being their responsibility is skewed against native people in this country, like their situation arose in some kind of vacuum.
The aboriginal leadership does not have the market cornered on lining their pockets, never mind incompetance. The Dept of Indian and Northern Affairs (what does that mean, Northern affairs? Does it have anything to do with resources on their land, hmm?) was set up, staffed and run by whites from day one. Not to mention the crooked lawyers, contractors and consultants, etc. who fleece them blind and laugh about it all the way to the bank.
We take advantage of them and their lands, diss their culture for 500 years to the point of trying to eradicate it, treat them as second class citizens everywhere, and then blame them for their poverty. What a crock o' sh*t.
the political leadership is no different from your council members and mayors or reeves.. they just hide it better.. there is alot of native women who are SPs.. they chose not to reveal their backgrounds due to bigotry like these clowns on here who proudly admit their ignorance.. I dont blame them for keeping their heritage secret..
