Good luck with your campaign but you will need to lick his balls when you lose as he will be honored. Although he did not play the same style as Linden or Smyl - Naslund did play 884 regular-season games with the Canucks and is the franchise's all-time leader in goals (346) and points (756). He was team captain from 2000-2008. He was NHL First Team All-Star for 2002, 2003 and 2004. He was also voted by the NHL Players as the Most Outstanding Player for the 2003 season - something that neither Linden or Smyl accomplished.
Can you name a team out there that uses your criteria? Better skip Toronto - they "honored" Wendell Clark - very popular but injury prone. He only played 608 games for 260 goals and 441 points.
Well, what I said wasn't so much a bet that Naslund wouldn't get his jersey retired by Vancouver as a plea that he shouldn't. Naslund was to Vancouver like Doug Weight was to Edmonton. I say give him a video tribute, give him a special night, but don't retire his jersey.
I would guess that all the Original Six teams use the standard of Hockey Hall of Fame = jersey retirement. So do the Oilers and the Islanders. The Maple Leafs don't retire jerseys so they almost don't count. I didn't check the list of retired jerseys thoroughly, but here it is:

I just think Vancouver should aspire to having standards as high as an Original Six team as opposed to say, the Carolina Hurricanes, who just retired Glenn Wesley's number.
