I used to buy Nalley's Chili all the time until they disappeared from the supermarket shelves a few years ago, the bastards. It's great stuff, especially the Jalapeño chili. I know it's still available in the States, but are there any stores in Alberta or BC that still carry it?

The jalapeno is my favourite as well. I'll watch for it for you otherwise will be stocking up south of the border. I think it was too hot for most Canadian palates.

That's funny

It was my favorite chili too. Stopped looking for it ages ago.
No other canned chili has ever matched it.

This backward-ass organization only accepts cheques or money-orders, no credit cards. And it says the contiguous USA only.

Contiguous: Touching at the edge or boundary. Close, but not touching, adjacent.
Last time I drove south I seem to remember running into one of those, boundaries that is.;)

From http://www.agric.gov.ab.ca/app68/agriprocessors?cat1=Food+Brokers&cat2=Western+Canada

Distributors/wholesalers but maybe they can point you at someone if they still carry Nalley's Chili.
They list it in their product lines - can't tell how old the listing is but I don't remember seeing the last time around.

Damn i miss that chili. I was however able to find a very good substitute. I can't remember the name of it right now but the only place that seems to sell it is IGA its in a red can with a yellow name tag, if that helps.

An idea

make a couple of big batches of your own, divide into medium sized ziploc freezer bags...stack em up and then you have them...no trip to states to schlep home cans of chili needed :D

Sydnee's Sinfully Spicy Chili - mmmm...I love it hot!
=====

Ingredients:
------------
2 lb Ground Beef (The leaner the better)
1 15oz Can Kidney Beans
1 15oz can Black Beans
1 8oz can tomato sauce
1 large Vidalia/Walla Walla Onion (Chopped)
5-6 cloves of garlic
12 Jalapeno peppers - the more seeds you leave in the hotter the result
1 tblsp Paprika
1 tblsp Cocoa
1 tblsp Cumin
1 tblsp Garlic Powder
1 tblsp Oregano
1 tsp Cayenne
1/2 tsp Black Pepper
Salt to taste
Enough Olive oil to saute the onions, garlic and jalapenos

Instructions:
-------------
Chop the onions, peppers and garlic. Saute them in olive oil until the
onions are browned. Add in the Beef and continue cooking until the
beef is browned. When done, put the mixture along with all of the
other ingredients, into a crock pot or stock pot. In the crock pot
cook for 6 to 10 hours. In the stock pot cook covered for about an hour
and a half. If more liquid is needed add beer or red wine...yummy

The Jalapeno is the best in the market by far.
I just finished my last can at lunch today.
Will buy more at Bromely's market in Sumas, WA.

Maybe I should start importing it by the case?

The brand i was thinking of is Puritan chili.
I was pissed and even emailed Birdseye, can't remember the reasons, economics, labeling, blah blah but bottom line, no more Nalley's chili in Canada. I have tried them all and the Puritan (just found it the other day in Safeway @ $.99) is the closest match but still not quite there. Try it Wolverine, way better than Stagg's.

organic

there is a good organic chili that comes mild or spicy (which is very spicy) but totally can 't remember the brand. Only thing is, first got it in Edmonton at like a Save-on foods (?), in their organic section. Might be called "Amy's" ?, had quite a large selection of organic canned stuff.

Really? I tried it once a few years ago and I thought it was too horrible to even feed a starving dog.

I've seen Amy's in a few grocery outlets, but not being of the dirty-hippie/enviro-poseur persuasion I have not been compelled to buy anything from the organic sections.

amys

I was thinking that if you liked a hot spicy chili, like the jalapeno you mentioned, I did find the hot one too hot for me. Like most organics tho it was expensive. The hot Puritan chili is not quite as hot as the amys, but still muy caliente.
