a whole yr or so, to get nothing of note

I can't stand the Liberals

but I would have had more respect for them if they would have called his bluff on autos

waited to see what the next Congress looks like, not to mention what the current one would do without Canada in a deal

then see what the new Mexican Socialist leader does

unlike China, we actually buy shit from the US, we're their top 1-2 trading partner in that aspect

he would have lost face without a deal before the midterms

this isn't good for Canada

one guy in the media basically said

"the US will now be able to limit Canada's growth"

they caved

there is nothing to celebrate here

like John Ivision said, "they got played"

I think that if you hate the Liberals, you will never see this new NAFTA 2.0 as a good deal. Only history will tell. When Mulroney created the original NAFTA, a lot of Canadians thought it was a bad deal and were sure that Mulroney had sold out the country. Many years laters, most historians (and Canadians) believe that the original NAFTA was a good deal for Canada. Let's revisit this question 30 years from now. At that time it should be clear whether NAFTA 2.0 is a good deal or not.

I realize you are so blinded by your beloved Conservatives but your argument is pretty shallow without any supporting reputable publications showing how Canada was played. And what if, Canada stood their ground on the current Autopact that's been in place for decades? The Americans could put Canada into a recession if hefty tariffs were imposed on imported vehicles.

You would be the first one here crowing what fools Liberals are if they played this high stakes game of chicken when in the room with an Administration that does not bargain in good faith.

Check out Conservative Publications from CD Howe Institute on the impact of 25% tariffs on aluminum and steel. That alone is $8.1B of trade with the US.
