My socialist brothers, sisters and transgender siblings join us tomorrow at the Vancouver Arts Gallery. This is the beginning of the end of capitalist tyranny and inequality. Lets put an end of proffiteering and greed. Lets put an end to poverty and homelessness.

From the ashes we will build a new Canada that respects the right of the 99%, that puts nature before profit, that cares for the people and not the corporations.

Long live Canada!!!

Long live the Socialist Workers of the Word!!!

you know what? i like the way canada is now. i have a decent job that pays me money that i use to see sp's. capitalism is fine as long as it isn't abused to much. greed is never going to go away. its in your nature as a human to want more. greed is the reason we have advanced from caves and sticks. no matter what system you put in place it will never be free of greed. there will always be someone that is working behind the scene to get more.

In capitalism, the Average Joe can think of an idea like seeing beautiful women playing football in lingerie then implementing it by calling it the Lingerie Football League and end up living the American Dream in a mansion overlooking the Hollywood Hills. The opposite of that dream and the end of capitalism is lining up for your weekly ration of soap, toothpaste, and detergent bars.

For Capitalism to work, there must always be a significant sector of the population that is living from paycheque to paycheque with no savings and this must go on indefinitely. They are the ones who work to live and Capitalism needs them as economic slaves so that the others can save and better themselves economically. Much of that saving is reinvested in society, and the more savings, the more investment and society improves quickly.

The alternative is to make it so that there is equity (or near equity) for everyone. In a world of limited resources, for everyone to be treated equally means that society will improve overall at a very slow rate. This is because almost nobody will be able to save.

As civilized people we do not like seeing people suffer, but we need to keep our eye on the bigger picture. We should ensure that people are not unduly exploited, and the only saving grace to the system of suffering is that often that suffering is ultimately by their own choice. The poor need to be not disempowered, but neither should we abandon society's gain by artificially forcing equity.

sorry but there will always be capitalism,
its human nature.

im told even in a communist state its capatilist
the higher up the ladder you climb the more capatilist it becomes

its ego, plain and simple.
with some people its money
with others its sex or power, knowledge, or the need to express one self

we all have an ego, a need to survive and reproduce,

how many of us live the life of mother thersa or gandhi or a monk,
its because we have egos and desires and most of us, look to or try to satisfy them

I think it is incorrect to label this a Socialist thing. It is more about what is right and what is wrong with our system.

Don't get me wrong, I am a capitalist through and through but have the sense to know when people are just getting screwed over by a system that is stacked against them. Case in point look at the brokerage houses in the USA who had their brokers selling stock to their clients and in their own words it was a "dog" stock. Not only did the promote the selling of those stocks but shorted the same stocks knowing the stock would go down. Then they profited by the customers also selling the "dog" stock after the fact.

If you look at the history of government decisions, USA and the EU banking decisions plus the less than arms length relationship with Wall Street, brokerage houses, mortgage brokerage houses et al.

They created a Old Boys Network whereas they all were sheltered from their decisions, profited handsomely even though the decisions lost money or worse became worthless.

Bailing out banks in the USA, potentially two major banks in the EU, brokerage houses, mortgage houses without any laws with teeth in them is a recipe for disaster.

In the end it is you and me holding the bag paying for the clean up afterwards.

Please don't take this the wrong way - but you are a retard. You're economically illiterate, you have no understanding of the world you condemn and your naivete would guarantee that you end up at or near the bottom of the pile in any 'worker's paradise' you hope to bring about, aside from the machinations of a free market. We have financial issues due to corruption - and overspending by government as well as individuals. Yes there are crony capitalists screwing up the system but it is not capitalism that is to blame. It is people cheating and breaking the rules.

You need to start with some simple ideas... first of all do you realize that you can't have both 'equality' ( equality of income as I'm sure you define it ) and freedom? Next you have to understand that 'profit' is how wealth is generated. This is how the human condition improves over time. People like you hate 'wealth' and decry 'profit' but you claim to hate poverty. Poverty is alleviated by one thing... wealth. That comes from profits. That comes from the free market - NOT government.

You should reflect on the gross inequality and tyranny that have accompanied every attempt to create a socialist worker's paradise.

And try to understand the way capitalism is actually supposed to work. Yes.. it needs fixing... not replacing.

You need to understand because for people like you there is no such thing as economics... it's all politics. There's no distinction. You advocate for the distribution of wealth and resources without any real understanding of how that wealth comes about.

I'm very well aware of the corruption, plutocracy and manipulation of the market system and want to see it fixed. The market itself will take care of a lot of that - some prudent regulation and reform will take care of the rest. Please leave us out of the socialist worker's paradise plan... we know where that road leads and it is to a greater evil than corrupt markets or burst credit bubbles.

Peace.

What a bunch of crap. Waste a bunch of tax dollars policing this band of hooligans and shitheads, whose protest will change exactly NOTHING. Congrats on exercising your rights to free speech and assembly. Meanwhile, you could/should be out volunteering in your neighborhoods actually making a difference.
Well said.

Actually, that is pretty much how socialism works too. In both systems there is an elite who get the best of the world and the masses who get whats left over.

I am sorry that Canada is not your idea of the Utopian society but starting a cultural revolution is hardly the solution.

:pound: You needn't have started your post with a semi-apology, westcoast55. There will always be people with no clue of how economies work, advocating for "equality for all people". What it means is everybody being equal in misery, with a standard of living that would bring humanity back to the medieval ages. You cannot pay a doctor, engineer, etc. the same as you would a janitor. Where would be the incentive to study for years to become a professional if you can't profit by it financially?

And I agree that the system needs some adjusting. When market conditions have more to do with the success or failure of a company than the management's decisions, I agree it stinks to pay that management millions a year, along with stock options and bonuses. But then, it's up to the shareholders to try to fix that problem, and more than ever are trying to do so. But it will take time.

I believe the OWS movement is really more an opportunity for people to rant and scream, blaming everyone but themselves for the fact they have no savings because they have blown their money on a mortgage they could not afford and toys they could really have done without.
