your mom says hi.
alright well i will admit i am not the most yankee friendly guy ever and i tend to generalize and put them all into the same moron category before talking or getting to know them, unless they show me otherwise which is a bad thing.

that being said, i don't hate you all :) only about 50% of ya ;) any americans on here i gotta tell ya that you would understand the anger behind my rants if you were a canadian and know the history as i do and the many ways we have been fucked over.

however that is not what this post is about. it is about what you like the most about americans and/or the u.s. following in the footsteps of the canada one cause that one made me feel really good. :D

RULES - don't use this thread for flaming the u.s. or americans(hard as that may be,lol :p ), or canada, similar rules to that of the canadian thread although some people did stray a little from the rules. this is a positive thread and only add to it if you have something positive to say.

Far South of the Border
OK:
Spacious skies
Amber waves of grain
Purple mountains' majesty above the fruited plain.
Rocket's red glare, bombs bursting in air (the Canadian connection.)
Parts of it are very close to Canada.

Have not province
From a perb perspective, I would like to thank the USA for the steady amount of porn and smut they prodigiously produce on a daily basis. Thank you to your porn industry for creating thousands of porn websites and videos for us to indulge in.

I would like to thank their South for their sordid Darwinian tales of "just being the South". :D

FROM A PERB PERSPECTIVE!

Actually, the question was what is the best thing about the USA....not exactly the same as asking what is the best thing about Americans.

As an American, currently living in Canada with the expressed goal of becoming a Canadian citizen, this is a difficult question for me as well. I guess the best thing about the USA is that there does exist a small core of liberally minded people that have the understanding that America has taken the wrong direction in its relationship with the rest of the world.

There are those that see America's conspicuous consumption of the majority of the worlds materials as an evil thing and does not serve as a role model for the rest of the world to emulate.

Many understand that we have actually created many of the problems that exist in the world today.

Some Americans understand that, as the world's only superpower, the USA should play the role of the world's leader by truly serving the world community, and not by coercing it as the world's cop or bully.

America has a proud history of social activists and reformers, too many to list. But, there have not been enough. The image and importance of these reformers is slowly fading from our collective consciousness. This is our greatest shame.

We forget.

This thread is just rude and insulting to the many Americans who frequent this board.

The way Canada has been short changed by the US, doesn't reflect on the hearts of most Americans. The percentage is so small that when i read how someone can hate 50% of all Americans because of US policy....

Most Americans don't give a flying fuck about Canada............or hockey, and thats okay., because these Americans or the ones here on PERB aren't dicating US policy towards Canada. The politicians in Washington are. So smackyo if your really pissy address you anger accordingly.

Now to answer you question.

I have travelled, and some of the nicest people i've met are Americans. And these ones are without AGENDA.

Since we're focusing on the positive

I like their dedication -- when they set out to do something, they do it. You want a man on the moon? You got it. You want to be a hockey power, even though 98% of your country could give a rat's ass about the sport? OK, let's do it, just cause we can.

I think George Orwell said that he loved people but didn't love humanity. That's how I feel. I can love Americans without loving the United States.

for the record kev your the moron and an asshole. i try to make a positive thread and maybe just explain some of my past rants so as to shed some light on things, ask a positive question and contribute positively to it and you act like an ass instead of just answering the question. i really doubt that many americans are offended by this thread.

As one of the Americans replying to this thread, you are correct, smackyo, at least as far as I'm concerned. I am not offended by the thread. I think the rest of the world has some legitimate right to being pissed off at both, 1. the policies of the US gov't and 2. the attitude of the American people in general.

The gov't seems determined on turning itself into an empire and the majority of the American people (those who voted for the real GWB) seem willing to allow them to do that. Not the way that my liberal thinking would have us act as the world last remaining superpower.

We should be feeding the power, not making more of them.

What's wrong with my list??

"The Star Spangled Banner" is an amazing tune with great lyrics. Brings a tear to my eye at times, and I've heard/sung it more times than any other song.

As much as I love The Star Spangled Banner, and as much as I truly love America, I thought I would pay tribute to these terrible times with my own version of that lovely song. Some of you are gonna hate this, but these days nothing is sacred anymore.

Sung to the tune of The Star Spangled Banner:

The Star Spangled Error

Oh say did you steal
Our Constitutional rights
that so proudly we hailed
before your conquests formenting

Whose broad plans that would start
toward a perilous fight
over our Sons' coffins we watched
though WMD are still missing

And our rockets' red glare
bombs bursting over there
pounded Fallujah all night
but it's not like we cared

So why do Arabian Sons pledge their lives to our terror?
Upon this land that was free, now the home of the slaves
