I was buying some DVD's tonight at Rogers... man, they got some good deals... 3 for $24 is what I usually do, plus they had a $11.98 for 2 new DVD bin with the Simple Life and some other 80's movies. Since I already had Simple Life season 2, figured I would get season 1.

There was a HUGE lineup... so me and a lady friend started chatting it up with a guy in the line right behind us... he was a pretty cool guy and he recommended that we get the $25 gift certificate, get a free rental, USE the $25 right away on the DVD purchase, and then throw away the gift card. Turned out that the free rental was Super Size Me... read a review of it in the paper a couple years ago, but never got around to seeing it.

In no particular order:

1. USA is fattest nation in the world.

2. 60% of Americans are overweight or obese.

3. The french fries can keep for 10 weeks without going bad. They did an experiment where they put a big mac, 1/4 pounder, chicken mcgrill, filet o fish, regular burger from a "real restaurant" and regular fries from a real restaurant.... the fries and burger from real restaurant disintegrated first... after 1 week... chicken mcgrill 2nd... the rest were about even.... all of them got mouldy after about 2-4 weeks... but the FRIES... they looked like new after 10 weeks... makes u wonder what the hell kind of preservative they put in them to make them keep that long...

4. Detroit is the fattest city in the world, followed by Houston... I remember visiting Houston on business about 5 years ago... and I remember wondering why everybody there looked so fat! No I know why!

5. Texas has 8 out of the top 15 fattest citys in the USA.

6. Most schools in the USA serve junk food with an average about 1200 calories per meal... this lines the pockets of junk food companies and it's a real problem.

7. There were a few schools that served healthy food... peas and carrots, healthy spring mix salad with brocoli, tomato, and sprouts... and baked lasagna instead of fried stuff... looked delicious! mmmmmmm... healthy food properly prepared tastes and makes you feel SOOO much better.

8. The guy in the movie gained 25 lbs in 30 days, and was basically about to die at the end of 30 days of nothing but McDonalds... his liver was basically "patte"... he felt lethargic, sick all the time... and the blood vessels leading to his cock were restricted... he couldn't get solid wood like before and his gf made a comment about that... if u want good wood with healthy sweet tasting semen and a load that maximizes facial devastation of a hot slut's perfectly madeup face, you'll probably want to adopt a healthy diet, similar to the one I have ;).

9. McDonalds in moderation is ok... I don't cook, and it's hard to eat healthy all the time without getting sick of the same food... I tend to limit my fast food to 2-3 times per month... when going to McDonalds, here is Maverick's recommendations:

A) Big Extra - get it without Mayo... the bun, meat, lettuce, tomato, and onion actually taste pretty damn good without the mayo and eliminates the majority of the "damage."

B) Big Mac - get it without the sauce and preferably the cheese too... the sauce is the killer.

C) McChicken - get it without the mayo and substitute a tomato slice. They will charge you 20 cents extra for this though...

D) cheeseburgers... get the hamburgers instead.

E) Filet o Fish... not quite the same without the sauce... because it's not just mayo, it's tartar... which has dill onions and some other nice ingredients that go hand in hand with fish.. so I usually get it with the sauce, but then wipe it down with a napkin... so u still get the "flavour" of the sandwich without most of the "damage." The cheese I usually just leave in.

F) 1/4 er... try to avoid at all costs... this one has the most calories and fat of all I think.

G) McNuggets are generally McBuzzard grounded up with beaks, feet, bones, and everything... kinda gross... but they do taste good... I get these with the salad and mix them in... it's not that bad if eaten with salad.

H) Avoid the pop... the ice tea has lots of sugar, but at least is not caffeinated... so if I HAVE to get a soft drink, I usually go for ice tea... getting the hot chocolate is an option as well... and CHEAPER... it's not on the menu, but if u order a sandwich of the day, salad/fries, and hot chocolate, u still get the "deal" but it's like 50 cents or so cheaper than if u get it with the "standard pop."

I) The turkey sandwich without mayo is a good option... ask for a honey mustard sauce and apply it yourself to taste.. it's better than mayo. The sandwich has bacon, but bacon in moderation is ok... sandwich tastes much better with the bacon.

J) Avoid the mcgriddles... they are awesome, but have more calories and fat than a 1/4 pounder!

K) You can sometimes substitute 2 apple slices for the fries... if u ask nicely... those with the caramel sauce are a fairly healthy choice and surprinsly tasty! I sometimes ask for an extra caramel sauce, which I use to dip my apples in at home... makes for a tasty yet overall healthy snack!

L) Never get the ranch or thousand island dressing.... low fat italian or balsamic vinegar dressing is the way to go (and better tasting if u ask me).

M) the chicken Mcgrill with BBQ sauce is pretty good.

N) BBQ or Honey Mustard sauce, although not perfect, makes a good substitute whenever mayo is in a sandwich... always get no mayo and then ask for these sauces on the side... u'd be surprised how good these alternatives are when used in moderation for taste.

Ok to go nuts once a month (anything you want)... anything in moderation is ok!

i just saw it recently as well ... it was good but nothing new (except maybe his approach to proving a point!).

btw: preservative is simply salt ... put enough salt on something and it will last forever.

they also tend to use trans-fats for their fries and that stuff also lasts forever.

I own the movie, and obviously like it.

But there's also that Edmonton teacher that at a fast-food diet for a month, and actually lost weight - because he included a daily regimen on exercise.

The point of the movie is that consuming nothing but fast food and sitting on your ass 24 hours a day - which unfortunately is what many North Americans do, can lead to disastrous consequences.

The movie is also an excellent peek into how much power the big food manufacturers and product distributors have in society, not to mention how insidious they are about subliminally indoctrinating people, especially kids, into being obsessed with consumption.

Oh yeah, I never knew McDonalds was the world's biggest distributor of toys - holy shit!

I thought that it was a pretty cool movie. Like Clancy pointed out, it was an interesting commentary on the influence that fast food has had on North American and, now, global culture.

It was funny, because there was a point in the movie when he was going to one of the MD’s for his check-ups and they were showing his blood labs. Basically, he was getting findings that you’d only expect to see in someone with liver failure, like a hard-core alcoholic. And this was simply from eating McDick’s. Incidentally, a friend of mine was telling me that she heard an interview on the radio that he gave about a year after the movie came out. Apparently, he was recounting how, up to that point, he still was having problems with his metabolism and keeping his weight to where he started.
