Don't underestimate the importance of being able to deliver dynamic performances. Good vocal ability might sell a few more cds but a dynamic performer sells tickets to concerts. The reality of the music industry is that even big name performers make a lot more money from concerts than they do from CD sales. The labels keep most of the profits from CD sales. On average Artists make about 8 times as much income from concerts as they do from CD sales. As seasoned professionals Tommy, Gilby, and Jason are well aware of the realities of the business and a going to pick someone who they think is most likely to fill the seats at their concerts.Hardatwork said:Magni has been my favorite vocalist, but as a performer he's not that dynamic. I think SN is looking for someone dynamic on stage like Toby or Lukas. I hope I'm wrong since I like Magni the best, but all the comments from SN point to performances instead of actual singing ability.
Writing their own music will also increase the amount of revenue generated through royalties which is why the stronger song writers will probably have an advantage over someone who is just a good singer.
