I don't have a tv and I don't read popular magazines so I have no idea what movies have been coming out. I've heard of the ones you'd have to be deaf & blind not to hear of, like Slumdog Millionaire, but what other good movies have come out in the last couple years?

I've watched all the movies I know of, so I need some more titles to search for :)

I'm going to agree with a bunch of Qtip's picks. I've deleted all of the ones from his list that I either didn't see, or didn't really like:
Zack and Miri make a Porno
Pineapple Express
The Dark Knight
No Country for Old Men
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Gone Baby Gone
Be Kind Rewind
Run Fatboy Run
The Departed
Casino Royale
Knocked Up
300
Mr. Brooks
Stranger than Fiction
The Prestige
Hot Fuzz
Last King of Scotland
I'd recommend all of the above, depending on what mood you're in.

- Pan's Labyrinth (adult fairy tale fantasy--very beautiful and tragic)
The only movies with "Labryinth" in the title I will watch involve tights, puppets, and huge hair.

** Katlyn <3s David Bowie **

hehe just kidding, thanks for the list. I actually haven't seen most of those either (bad me!)

*edit: now I remember why I haven't seen Pan's Labryinth...it's not on any download sites, damnit!

Milk - Great movie. Great performances by all.
Boy in the Striped PJ's - Interesting premise. Ruined by gaps in logic.
Australia- Extremely long. Extremely boring. Nice scenery.
Zack and Miri make a Porno- Haven't seen
Changeling- Great. Amazing true story. Even Jolie is mezmerising.
Lakeview Terrace- Should have been better. But hey, SJ stars, so it's good.
Nick & Norah's infinte playlist- Great little movie. The gum scene will gross you out, tho.
Blindness- Didn't see (no pun intended)
Religulous- Very one-sided arguments, but Mahr skewers everybody equally.
RocknRolla- Ritchie makes really cool movies.
Pineapple Express- Rogan Apatow. Same old same old.

The Dark Knight- Great mood. Great acting. Great CIG.
No Country for Old Men- Over-rated.
21- Great story. good acting. Good build-up.
Wanted -McAvoy wasted in a trite action bomb.
Juno- If you like quirky you'll love this.
Step Brothers- Didn't see.
Michael Clayton- Didn't see.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall- Should have been funnier.
Dan in Real Life- Sit-com-styled movie. Sweet, but few funny scenes.
Traitor- Didn't see.
The Strangers- Didn't see.
Baby Mama- Very funny. Poeler and Sarah Palin work well together.
Gone Baby Gone- More quirky. Clever.
Into the Wild- Can't remember it.
Walk Hard- Very funny. Worth it for the great songs, alone.
Be Kind Rewind- Didn't see.
Run Fatboy Run- Clever. More sweet than funny.

The Departed- Terrific acting.
Casino Royale- Boffo Bond.
Knocked Up- Offensive and illogical.
Borat- Original and hilarious.
300- Didn't see.
Childern of Men- An eye opener..
Eastern Promises- depressing and very brutal, but a must see.
Mr. Brooks- Forget waterworld. Costner does an about-face. Good movie.
Night at the Museum- Another that should have been hilarious, but just sat there.
Babel- Good film. Pitt was not the star.
Deja Vu- I think I saw this one before.
The HeartBreak Kid- Can't remember it.
Stranger than Fiction- Even Farrell was good in this odd little gem.
The Prestige- Didn't see it.
Hot Fuzz- Funny, clever.
The Queen- Terrific acting.
Last King of Scotland- Great performance all round.
I'd also add Hotel Rwanda, Doubt, Man On Wire,The Bank Job, Role Models and Appaloosa.

Action - The Bourne Ultimatum - (with Matt Damon) the story, action sequences, cinematography are great.
Drama - Definitely Slumdog all the way but an underrated one is Gran Torino with Clint Eastwood (one of his best performances with a good story)
Cartoon - Wall-E (very funny and solid story - not just for kids). Kung Fu Panda or Ratatouille as well
Comedy - SuperBad / 40 Year Old Virgin
Sci-Fi Superhero - Dark Knight / Iron Man
Musical - Hairspray / Sweeney Todd (Johnny Depp can sing !)

I am amazed no one mentioned THE ZOHAN. Borat was listed, but if
Borat is there then THE ZOHAN should be as well since it's in the
same leaque. Make sense? But after 4 baccardi what do i know?

Ah, yes, i was thinking of this one too, amazed that it was not mentioned,
but not sure if it was w/i the specs of the original post. But this may be
in the top 10 movies of all time. An absolute must see. And BTW, folks,
this is the 3rd in the trilogy, so you may want to see the first two first.

Maybe you can try btjunkie.org. If not, just rent it; it's a beautiful film, very cool.

I also really liked Kung Fu Hustle from sperm's list.

If you like anime, I saw Grave of the Fireflies last year, which is semiautobiographical. It's old, but very moving and one that I recommend.

They might not have been mentioned because I said I'd seen all the ones you would have to be blind/deaf not to heard of...

case in point, I've seen everything on your list :)

good movies though!

Zach and Miri Make A Porno is harlious. Basically just sat and laughed my ass off like 80% of the entire movie. * Fuck Miri's hot!*

Nortious B.I.G - A really good movie. One of my favorites BUT if you don't know what happend between Tupac and Biggie you will be confused and I don't think you will enjoy it and or if you don't know who Biggie was or if you dis-like rap you will not enjoy it.

Qtip bascially said it all.

I am a movie buff who does not take the time to see a lot of new movies. So, going on what I've seen suggested here...

The Departed is the first one I'd watch, it might be my favorite movie ever.
It is a must own. It is soo good, soo good.

Borat is hilarious. 40 year old virgin made me laugh. Pineapple express was ok, but my expectations were a bit too high maybe.

No country for old men, was a very well done movie, except it had no ending. I hate it, and wished i'd never watched it. It was pumped up so much, it could have been one of the best ever. GRRRR....

Juno and Little miss Sunshine were 2 I was suprised to like so much. They are not what I typically enjoy, but I liked them.

Anything with Will Ferral makes me laugh, so Blades of Glory and Talledega nights have to get a mention.

Yeah, it was a great movie. Apparently Infernal Affairs (the movie it's based on) is even better, but I haven't seen it, so I can't say for sure.
Pineapple express was ok, but my expectations were a bit too high maybe.
I found Pineapple Express to be absolutely hilarious. Part of the reason for that, though, is that the guy I used to buy weed from was almost exactly like James Franco's character... The whole time I was laughing and saying "it's so true!"

Are you kidding me? The way it ended was one of the things I loved about it. It just reinforced the pointlessness of it all. I thought it was great that they didn't go with a whole Hollywood ending.
Juno and Little miss Sunshine were 2 I was suprised to like so much. They are not what I typically enjoy, but I liked them.
Little Miss Sunshine I liked, but Juno I thought was over-rated. I thought it was just OK. In fact, it disappointed me quite a bit, because I was expecting a lot from it. It had a great cast, and so much buzz, but for me it just fell flat.
