The Persuit Of Happyness, with Will Smith and his son. Just finished watching it and I am sitting here still all emotional cuz it was that impactful. While watching the movie I was trying to place myself in Chris Gardners position and all the hurdles he had to endure, while never giving up hope, faith and his persuit to be truely happy.
I will admit I had a hard time trying to picture Will Smith in this impactful and serious role, but I am sure with his son playing the part of his son in the movie it just all fell into place.

I strongly recommend this movie and give it 10's all across the board.

P.S. watch it with a chick if your trying to get laid, it'll work and she will melt like butter.

The Will Smith (and son) vehicle...

I would give it one of my reviews except for the fact that I have no desire to see it.
Two masterpieces not to miss are Babel and The Painted Veil....both 3.75 out of 4 on the Dr. Moe scale.

quite frankly the real chris gardners was far more impressive than the hollywood shit that was produced. you can see an interview with the real guy on youtube that was done years ago before he became famous

I liked Painted Veil, but wasn't very thrilled with Babel. Babel jumped around too much. I enjoyed The Departed.

cars is the best movie, I've watched it at least 20 times, with my 3 yr old grandson. Great story, lots of action.

Hahahah yea right. Completely disagree. People in Africa live tougher lives than him. That sort of human spirit is overlooked too much. His story doesn't make him any more special than the countless people who live in 3rd world countries
I agree with Avarice. People missing an arm or Siamese twins have much tougher lives than him.

Why aren't there more movies about them? When was the last time there was a movie about Siamese twins overcoming hardship since "Stuck on You?"

I don't understand how we can have movies about different types of hardship until we have more movies about hardship that is overlooked like Siamese twins.

Two of the most emotional movies I ever saw were:

1. The Killing Fields - genocide in Cambodia, and the saving of one Cambodian man by a Canadian journalist. A true story.

2. The Remains of the Day - for the literate minded, about an English butler and the woman who loved him even as they were too old to carry a romance, and his inability to recognise the love that passed him by. The book by Yakuo Ishiguro was even better.

Both filled me with grief and sorrow for humanity. So much unnecessary loss, both at the social and the intimate level.

Lastly, I find 99% of Hollywood movies too infantile to appeal to me on any kind of emotional level. They're just sacharine, even when they try to be bitter sweet.

Oh my. I thought I was the only one who liked "Remains of the Day" and other movies of that ilk.

Uggh. Too much recency effect here folks.

Over the fullness of time, I consider the following worthy emot flicks by theme:

:) Animals: Old Yeller (yes, I cried when the dog died), and Born Free (slow by modern standards but had me balling my eyes out as a kid)

:) Zombies: Dawn of the Dead (when hell is full, things get ugly. Still disturbing with unrepentend carnage)

:) Attraction/Passion/Lust: 7-Year Itch. Just gotta be hot for Marilyn and Rachmanianoff. 9-1/2 Weeks - still edgy after all these years

:) Love: The Notebook. (See it and feel)

:) Death & Despair: Apocolypse Now (extreme hopelessness)

:) Laugh to Live: I will go with Caddyshack on this one. Chevy and Bill in the same movie?

:) Sadness: Sorry, these bring me down. Don't watch them.

:) Hollywood: Any 3 out of 5 in the movie listings. Mostly feel-good waste of time.

i like will smith products. i'm probably the guy they had in mind when they made his first 6 albums or the fresh prince of bel air (best sitcom ever).

bad boys (1&2), MIB, independence day loved them all. but pursuit of happyness sucked. maybe i missed the point of the struggle, maybe i didn't care for the fact they tried to make us feel sorry for him, or maybe it was the stupidity of where he was (hey, he could have abandonded the bone scanner job and been a trucker or something productive even if he still had some scanners left), but the movie chewed up 1 1/2 hours of my life that i'll never get back. when i'm shelling out 5 bucks for a movie i want to be entertained. so it's back to senseless violence, comedy, and nudity for me.
