Hello everyone!

I'm planning on going to Montreal in either the second week of March, or the first week of April...it just depends on when I can get the time off. Anyway, it will be for a week... and it will be my first time there.

So, I'd seriously appreciate some input from the discerning ladies and gentlemen on all things worth seeing in Montreal, at least during the quasi post winter month. Any additional perspective on good eats, great drinks, or fantastic must see sights is greatly appreciated.

I know they have full contact strip clubs, but I'm not sold on them. From what I can tell, they don't sound too different to the No5 or (in some ways) the Paramount. I will go to one just to say I've been to a Montreal strip club... for what it's worth... so if you had one club to go to, what would you say is the best bang for your buck / best experience? Any favourites?

I'll be aiming to stay in the down town old monteal core, so hopefully everything will be relatively within walking distance, or a quick ride by transit.

Also, is there anything I should be wary of? Scams, customs or just plain odd rules or going-ons?

Cheers!

you can get montreal touring lady quality escorts for about half the price that you pay for them here - so why waste your $ in strip joints?

Lol Not insult No5 and all the others around BC but strip clubs back east are nothing that you have ever experienced out here. Go to Chez Paree...clean, classy and 6 to 8 gorgeous girls on the floor and on stage constantly . It was one of the hangouts of the NHL Teams and some of the MTL Canadians guys at times. Just a fun place to see and experience.

For food everyone you meet out there will have their favorite restaurant...but for smoke meat normally Schwartz on the main ( St-Laurent st ) is the best place to go. Again ...fun place to experience ...I won't elaborate on that lol and great smoked meat .

As or the ladies out there in Montreal Vancity Cowboy said it all.

one stop shopping at Chez Paris...never a dull moment, great ladies. Not even in the same league as the Paramount or No.5...Tip the door man when you enter, it is expected...and no loonies or toonies...as for SP's check the boards lots of choices... Montreal is a food mecca,no shortage of good eats...go to Schwartz's for the experience and the indigestion. Gibby's in old montreal is epic...transit is great, cabs are plentiful. Do some online research for food and bars...full spectrum of good times no matter if your budget is on the low end or the upper end...PM me if you want more details...

Montreal is the best.
Haven't enjoyed SPs there but seems VFM is top shelf.
Strip joints cannot be compared with Vancouver.
Food wise: Schwarts is a must, Moishe's for a great steak and lastly get some decent bagels at St Viateur.
Can you bring back a dozen? Bagels or ladies, make your pick.

Thanks for the tips, fellas. As sacriligeous as it seems, I wasn't planning on pooning over there... I'd rather focus on the joys and delights of the city and the people, rather than concern myself with getting laid. :)

Montreal is definitely SP heaven.

That is where most of the best SPs come from and their rates are way lower there.

Then I reiterate - Moishe's for sweatbreads AND steak.
Rich in cholesterol.
Avoid the poutine, try not to get a heart attack.

^ I lost my heart to a girl from Quebec once... and there wasn't anything past a good bye kiss after each date. I suspect I'd be in trouble if I hooked up with one of those heavenly sp's :p

As far as the strip clubs go, most of my friends that have been rave about them... so I figure I might as well experience one of them as part of the trip. I figure one nights foray can't hurt too much, as I'm careful. I've heard the thing to do is either prepay for dances, or confirm inbetween how many...otherwise you might find a discrepancy with the bill. Or is that more of a problem at some establishments over others?

I have to admit, I am probably looking forward to the craft beer and poutine a little more than I should :) I will have to find a way of sampling a lot of food without filling myself to the brim, or breaking my wallet :p

I would recommend going into the Old Montreal district to check out the art cafe's and bistros. The square around the Notre-Dame Basilica hosts incredible architecture and sights, the Basilica itself is a sight to behold. Great city the view from Mount Royal is fantastic.

I'm considering how I might either see Quebec city, if I have the time and money to do so. I imagine it will take a little bit to get my bearings.

I booked a place inside of Old Montreal, although I'm starting to realize just how far I have to go to get to some of the sights I want to see :) Lots of walking, or enjoying the city transit I suppose (I prefer to feel the street beneath my feet when exploring a new place). The 3 day and week passes look pretty good.

right behind you!
There is a crazy bar in Old Montreal district that is a few open floors with a band playing in the center. Everyone sings a long and it's a great time. Does anyone know the name of where I am talking about ? :)
French Music, I am thinking ? https://2pierrots.com/

Almost above is a more english crowd at Pub St-Paul... http://pubstpaul.com/

If your you looking for some bars, some of the more popular ones downtown are on crescent ave/Ste-Catherines. http://www.crescentmontreal.com/en/merchants/pubsclubsbars

or on St-Laurent, past Sherbrooke, in an area called the McGill Gettho... http://boulevardsaintlaurent.com/en/service/bars-boites-de-nuits-lounges/

Some suggestions of things to do.,..

The recommendation to go to Quebec City is spot on. It's the prettiest city in North America, and has a completely different feel than Montreal. It's like a 3-hour train ride, downtown to downtown. Absolutely worth it.

In Old Montreal, Bonaparte offers an exceptional dining experience. Their Prix Fixe menu is an excellent deal, although not entirely cheap. Joe Beef is also good, but can be hard to get in to.

Bon voyage!
