Does it happen? Does any girl (or guy) grow up wanting to be a sex worker? Highly unlikely, but just when is the decision made? We hear all the statistics about SP's being abused as kids or seeking approval from men, etc, but what do the SP's say? Leading a secret life can't be easy if you have family and friends nearby, so do most SP's have dysfunctional families? I'm asking the women on the board because I think they represent a different societal spectrum than street workers - who I think are over-represented in prostitution-related statistics.

Does anyone listen to Jim Rome? As much as a blow hard he is, he says one thing that is true.

People end up in porn. They do not choose to be in porn.

This is true for most in the sex biz in general. People end up in a situation due to any number of circumstances and turn to the sex biz.

Yeah, yeah, its a generalization and many will claim its not true. But what 16 year old girl thinks "hmm, when i turn 18, i want to work in the sex biz. I want to have sex with fat old men for money. I want to have sex on camera with multiple guys, getting fucked in all my orafices, and being cummed all over. I want to dance in dark, dirty strip clubs, and make extra money on private dances in the VIP area by doing extras."

that question is a really slipperly slope ... there are lots of women who have sex with lots of men for free all the time ... and seeing some of the guys these women go home with, they are not all that choosey all the time!

and, as some sp's have pointed out here and in conversations, why stand around some retail store for 8 hours or more to earn less than one session with an ugly?

some have told me they do it for tuition, others because they have kids to support and a couple have told me they like sex and why not get paid for it?

the biggest problem in this society, among others, is that we are still struggling with the female sexual dichotomy of 'virgin or slut' ... men want to bang the gong till it falls off with every woman they meet, but still want to only have relationships with women who are virgins or at least have less sexual experience/power than they do.

women have been selling their bodies for as long as there have been a means of men paying for it ... whether by dragging home a dead mastodon or by proposing marriage ... its all the same.

it is just our inability to remove the morality from sex that causes us all a shit load of grief.

Well put LG! That's exactly one of the reasons why I ended up here. Years ago, a male friend of mine died and I had a revelation. That is that it's okay to f*ck for fun. It's not dirty, it doesn't mean I'm a slut, and I don't have to be in love to do it. If not for my hang ups, we would have been f*ck buddies. A missed opportunity :( Eventually, that evolved into 'Why not for profit?' My Dad always told me to find something I'm both good at and enjoy doing for a career. This is it. ;)

I wasn't abused. In fact, I had a great childhood. As far as a dysfunctional family, ehh, I don't know of any that aren't to some degree. I don't need or even care about approval from anyone.

Good question CT

Good topic

I wasn't abused either and had a great rural upbringing but was a total fuck up at most jobs. I only looked into this biz cuz I was naive and thought escorts went out for dinner and dancing then had a choice if they wanted to go further. My job search (with resume I might add, lol) would have been enlightening but I happened to call E &R first and found out about the massage which I already knew I loved doing. Once I got there and found out about the hand job I didn't care if it was a social stigmata or not. This is the first thing I have really excelled at, and enjoyed doing. I may not be able to retire anytime soon but I have other things on the go, in my spare time, for the future when I get too old to do this.

Massagegirl: "stigmata" means spontaneous mysterious bleeding from the hands or other body parts; kinda seen as being possessed, a candidate for sainthood, crazy, or touched by God. I hope this doesn't happen in your massages.
Perhaps you meant "stigma".

I really don't see any practical difference between marriage & prostitution, except that the latter is more honest. I love the show "Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire?" because it for once showed an accurate picture of what marriage is all about: women chosen for their outward appearance (primitive signs of good health/ability to bear many children), men chosen for their control of resources & ability to supply security (however that is defined by the culture).

To say that most SP's didn't envision their career at 6 or 16 is really silly.
I didn't foresee mine, not unlike many people.
If everyone did what they wanted to be at 6, we'd be a world of ballerinas, firemen, beauty queens, fairy princesses, & super heroes!

The best SP's & pornstars are people who genuinely love sex, & for whom the money is merely a bonus. If not for the $ they'd probably be doing the same thing.

I'll bet SP's who are in control of their lives (no drugs/addictions/pimps/no coersion) are as together psychologically as anyone.

Wow, Check out a post I did in the lounge. Similiar topic...
I don't believe for one second Massagegirl that you could not use your mind instead of your hand and make a good living...(that's a compliment by the way) You write well in many posts I have seen here.

I guess reading this some girls really love it for sex sans any emotional attachment.

In a nice wet pussy!
Sex is a commodity, and it is and always will be used as a medium for exchange or barter for a tangible gain; most frequently security. And security takes many forms... Food, shelter, clothing, pleasure, money, power, fame, real estate and the occasional mastadon...

There is an ex-sp in Toronto, whose name I forget, who now works for a hookers rights organization. I heard her say, in an interieiw about her profession, that she had wanted too be a prostitute as early as 6 yrs old. She went on to clarify this. What she said was that when she would watch the old westerns on TV, it was always the salon girls that would catch her attention. And she remembers thinking that this is who she wanted to be in life. This is before, I hope, she even knew what sex was.

I found this interesting and often mention it to people who think that all sp's are exploited slaves. Some of them are simply intelligent women who make a different choice than many would feel comfortable with.

Call me dumb, but how is that a compliment? "You're great at what you do (sex) but you're a bit dim upstairs?"

Fail to see the compliment in that...

From what I've seen, many SPs are coerced into the business by pimps. But even after they get off the streets, they become independent escorts because they're attracted by the money. That said, I'm sure some of them are still being pimped despite being "independent".

I am not an expert in English, but couldn't the original statement be written as, "I always believe that you could use your mind instead of your hand and make a good living," without altering much of its meaning?

Absolutely right [Server Error]. He uses a double negative ...

"I don't believe" .. "that you could not use your mind instead of your hand and make a good living" Not perhaps the most elegant way of expressing it, but definitely a compliment.

Farked2 just isn't used to actually reading. He's got all the passages of the bible memorized and doesn't worry about anything else.

Add stupid to moralizing twat!!!

I side with Jumbo on this one. Most girls dont save any money. Theres always exceptions, but heres the what I see in general. Youve got some girls that earn enough to survive and party and little more. Theyre always broke and spend their money as quick as they can earn it. Then theres girls who work a lot and charge a lot. Theyve got a lot of cash flow but also seem to always be broke. Theyre into a highrolling lifestyle, spending money on clothing, shoes, salons, spas, travel, etc. Some in this group are even more broke than the first category.

Its often hard to save money when its all cash and you see no end in it. Why save when you figure you can work more and earn more tommorow.

Again, theres exceptions. Id say older girls, approaching 30 and up, who are maybe looking for a way out of the biz and have managed to keep their head straight may be the ones who start saving money rather than spending it on their current lifestyle.
