Fresh off the heels of the news that plus-size model Ashley Graham’s “Swimsuits for All” ad campaign will be featured in the pages of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue, comes news that an actual plus-size model is being featured inside the magazine. Australian Robyn Lawley has been named one of the magazine’s rookies of the year, a huge deal in the world of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit modeling (Kate Upton was a rookie in 2011, then she landed the cover).

The thing is, when you look at Robyn Lawley, who is 6’2” and wears a size 12, you hardly see a plus sized woman. Lawley has a banging body. Not “a great plus size body” or “a great skinny body,” she just has a great body! And while plus size should not be taken as an insult, it’s just ridiculous to call this woman “plus size.” Even though Lawley has built a career as a plus size model, she has expressed that she dislikes the term, “In the beginning, I didn’t mind getting called (plus size), but I am not a plus-size person,” she said in a press release earlier this year, “I don’t think anyone should be called plus size.”

This is Ashley Graham (the model in the pic in the first post is Robyn Lawley)

My opinion...it's a small step.

Sports Illustrated shouldn't really be praised for this. All they did was sell ad space in their magazine.

If they really want to make progress, then they should use a model like Ashley Graham in an actual pictorial.

From what I have read, Hannah Davis is Jeter's GF. She is on the cover. Could be wrong, but I will know for sure on Thursday when it arrives in the mail.

For some odd reason, the Swimsuit Issue is the only one that comes wrapped. Must be some reason for that. LOL.

She may not be plus-sized like a BBW (what an euphemism!!!!)....
but at 6'2" and size 12 - that's no average physique for a female, that's a giant.

What I find interesting is not that, but why SI feels compelled to put a "realistic" female body on the cover. Would that be a female who is 5'7" and 165 lbs? Because that's less realistic than a female who is 5'1" and 105 lbs - which is about 2/3 of all adult females in the world.

Are we celebrating fat chicks? If so why?
Because there's more to love? lol

If so, it's quite unfair - they never celebrate fat guys. There's the "BBW" - "big beautiful women" *COUGH*.

They've never come up with a nice acronym for the fat guy.

Always count on uh-oh for the fat shaming. ;)
"Always", thats quite an accusation, you have evidence to support it?

My comment is more to do with the words "Normal Body". The North Aamerican female "Normal Body" is an overweight body. How many magazines do you suppose they'll sell with pages full of ”normal bodies"?
Should the Olympics allow normal athletes to participate? You suppose there's a market for that? Should women be content to be overweight because the average woman is overweight?

Next year Bruce Jenner will be on the cover.
If he is, it probably won't be in a bikini as escapefromstress asked ....... more likely in striped prison garb.

While he was driving this afternoon, he hit another car, and the driver of that car was killed.

Don't know any more details at this moment, besides that the cops said alcohol was not involved.
