In Van for Japanese, I had Miko's recommended to me on account of them not using farmed salmon, and wow what a difference it made! I had no idea raw fish could taste so good and be so smooth and creamy! Usually not a raw fish person, but tried it as well as what I really wanted which was dynamite cones, sunomono and tempura. All top notch, so even though there are cheaper places every 5 feet in Van, when I return I am making a bee line for Mikos.

Sorry I don't have more ideas for you Lisa, how are you liking Van so far?

A Taste of India on Robson near Thurlow for Indian food.
Lot's of good Thai places. Salathai on Burrard and Smythe is my favourite.
For Northern Chinese, Beijing restaurant on Smythe and Hornby.

Kintaro Ramen

I want to go here next time I'm in Vancouver. I ran into a Canadian from Vancouver at another Ramen place in Nagoya named Hongo-tei. Fantastic Tonkatsu Ramen for only 700 yen.

Anyone ever been there for the tonkatsu ramen?

Chambar, my new favourite restaurant

Went to the new Belgian bistro, Chambar on Beatty St (just south of Pender) the other nite.
Greeted by a Liza Minelliesque hostess and a bustling room full of groovy people, my friend and i were led from the lo leather lounge seating area through a long narrow bar (with hot bartender) to a grand room at the back with a wall of windows framing the sky.
My friend and i decided on the duck in filo, halibut and elk and washed it all down with some belgian beer and wine.
We finished off with an expert tarte tatin amped up with little cherries and a dollop of mascarpone.
I can't go back soon enough...i'm dying to try the poutine and a plate of mussels...at the bar of course, so i can give that hottie bartender my number.

Just happened to catch a TV show where they were reviewing someone's book about 100 Things I'd Like to do Before I Die.

One of the things was to eat at Tojo's restaurant in Van.

Tojo's

Sounds interesting. Never really enjoyed sushi until I had the Ahi Tuna appetizer at Hy's in Winnipeg during Juno weekend. Wow, was that tasty or what.

Frenchie's on hastings street. authentic montreal smoked meat and poutine. they are about two blocks east of naniamo. pretty good food. the sandwiches are HUGE.

F.Y.I. poutine in spanish means "young gay man". kinda makes you think when you want to eat some poutine huh?
