From my understanding of the times, economically it was good, anybody that wanted a job and wanted to work got a job.
Yes people moved across the country to do so, even then. If you lived in a company town during those times and didn't work for the company it could be hard. and yes there was unemployment, everybody's experience is difference due to their circumstances, but generally the economy was good and jobs were still abundant....
