Anyone have migraine headaches? A few times a year I experience horrific headaches. Sometimes Robaxacet 8 works, sometimes 222's but only after taking about four (two, then two more about four hours later).

Anyone have any suggestions?

I started getting migraines about three years ago. Even saw auras and impacted my vision. Had a billion tests done and nothing was found (like a tumor). They just went away after about six months and I don't get them any more.

One thing I did was yoga/meditation which helped make the pain less.

I've heard there really isnt any relief from true migraines. If you are able to narrow it down to some other physical condition that can be repaired, or if it is food allergy related, you have an answer there. There are some who get headaches when they drink coffee or chocolate, and others who get them when they stop drinking coffee. Maybe you can look at diet as a part of a way to relieve the symptoms when you get one?

pillow is right, many believe it is tied to foods like chocolate, cheeses, coffee etc. there's lots of articles out there. My cousin found sitting in the cold (like and ice rink) helped. relief sadly is from strong medication. I find when i get them they come after the auras start so if i take something like 3-4 advils (adjust for your weight) it lessens the pain.
Health nurse would likely be of more use than us.

I have been getting migraines for about 15 years now. Generally I need cold, quiet, and dark to help me recover along with enough T3's to knock me out for a bit.
As its been said, there are triggers. Mine are chemical compounds such as aspartame and MSG although sometimes you just get lucky ;)
One of my profs (bio-psych) also gets migraines and takes these wafers for them when she gets her warning signs. From what I remember, she said they aid to mimic seretonin which plays a part in migraines. Perhaps then you could try some natural remedies that either aid in the release of that neurotransmitter or that mimic it. 5HTP maybe?? I would think that if you found something like this, you could take everyday and you might get migraines less often. Best of luck!

I get seasonal related migraines, also weather changing/altitude. I cannot even live in Calgary again, the shinnooks caused the worst migraines ever! Have you made a move recently or travel a lot?..

I get something called 'muscle tension headaches' and also 'cluster headaches'. Generally, they are stimulated by increasing exercise, like yesterday for example, I did a 20k bike ride and had so much energy I pushed myself to the limit.

The position where the arms are holding up the body and the head is tilted up can cause a lot of stress in the neck and shoulder muscles. The next day I usually end up turning into the letter S and the pain behind my eyeballs and the place where the neck meets the base of the skull....ouch!

I take a very powerful anti-seizure drug with an ounce of scotch. The scotch facilitates the absorption of the drug and speeds it to my central nervous system where it slows the impulse of all the nerves in my body and I unfold like, well, like something that unfolds nicely.

Sometimes it doesn't work. I missed a really good party with Nina and Frejya due to a headache that took over my entire body. But Frejya gave me strong coffee in the morning and I recovered in 15 minutes.

I had some relief from botox in the upper scalp region but it has worn off now. For those who get muscle tension headaches Botox can prevent the muscles from seizing up.

Why is this guy her hero? UMMM...because he is fecking gorgeous? If he was in my bed I would be eating raw too!

Hi Fletch!

I'm sorry to hear about your migraines. I completely agree with Pillowtalk the yoga and mediation is so helpful for migraines. I realized I had food intolerance to cheese milk and wheat I can eat a sandwich once in awhile but I always get a headache to full blown migrain if I eat packaged meats with cheese.

I cut out dairy and I drink between 2 to 3 litres of WATER a day. Migrains are inflammation in the body so whatever you can do to alkalize your body (reduction of inflammation) through diet never hurts.

as of now I am 80% Raw!

That makes sense Ivy, because Tegretol allows the nerves to relax easing the restriction that causes the shrinking of the blood vessels. This relaxation allows the blood to move through the entire body more easily. I have very cold hands and feet, during my headaches they get icy.

Tylenol and aspirin have never worked for my headaches.

Cluster headaches are often associated with MS. The nerves in the body fire inappropriately and cause muscles to contract, sometimes painfully, especially in the scalp and neck area.

With most drugs there are consequences and either the liver of kidneys are the victims. Better the liver, which can rejuvenate, than the kidneys.

Migraines are a terrible terrible thing. I have realized that the root cause of mostly all of my migraines have been from an allergy to MSG, cheap perfume (ugh thats the worst when someone sprays crappy perfume on themselves and you are trapped with them in an elevator or in public.. INSTANT migraine) and also certain foods & drinks (white wine) cause them.

My mom has been suffering from migraines for 30 + years and has probably spent thousands and thousands of dollars on different prescription medications over time(immatrex shots + every other migraine medication probably developed), she usually has to bounce from different medications because she has told me that eventually a certain kind will stop working over time (which Ivy had mentioned in her post above). I hate seeing my mom in pain with a migraine :(

Magic Mushroom has been shown to ease cluster headaches. From Wiki:

Psilocybin has been investigated as an experimental treatment for several disorders.

In 1961, Timothy Leary and Richard Alpert ran the Harvard Psilocybin Project, carrying out a number of experiments concerning the use of psilocybin in the treatment of personality disorders and other uses in psychological counseling.[55]

A pilot study led by Francisco Moreno at the University of Arizona and supported by Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies studied the effects of psilocybin on nine patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).[56] The study found that psilocybin could be safely given to patients with OCD, and it was associated with substantial reductions in OCD symptoms in several of the patients.[57]

Two current studies are investigating the possibility that psilocybin can ease the psychological suffering associated with cancer. One study, led by Charles Grob, involves 12 subjects with terminal cancer being administered the hallucinogen or a placebo in two separate sessions.[58] A second study, led by Roland Griffiths at Johns Hopkins, administered psilocybin to people "with a current or past diagnosis of cancer who have some anxiety or are feeling down about their cancer".[59] Preliminary results indicate that the low doses of psilocybin can improve the mood and reduce anxiety of patients with advanced cancer, and that the effects last from two weeks to six months.[60] In 2008, the Johns Hopkins research team published guidelines for responsibly conducting medical research trials with psilocybin and other hallucinogens in humans.[61]

Additionally, psilocybin has shown promise to ease the pain caused by cluster headaches, often considered not only the most painful of all types of headaches,[62] but "one of the worst pain syndromes known to mankind."[63] In a 2006 study, 22 of 26 cluster headache patients reported successfully using psilocybin to abort the attacks, and 18 of 19 psilocybin users reported longer attack-free periods.[64]

But that little war on drugs has made any legitimate research next to impossible.
