This is so screwed up that I'm posting on an escort review board about this, but what the heck... if anybody has any links to good info, I'm all ears. I'm looking to get a good value system $500-$3000. I don't mind paying a bit more if the value and quality is there. Looking to do a 20-30 minute workout 4 days a week to improve cardio, definition, and burn fat, not to bulk up.

I don't have time to go to the gym... I like the comfort of home where I can watch TV or listen to my own music. I've been "Rocky Four'ing it" until now... if you know what I mean... exercising off the land and naturally without equipment.

Pass on spending $500-$3000 on that stuff.... like 90% of people you'll use it for a couple of months then stop because its not effective.

Do like what I have done to great success: buy an MP3 player, one of the tiny little ones you can barely feel the weight of. Put lots of great music on it, buy a good pair of runners and rain-repellant running gear and baseball hat. Find a nice route free from traffic. Then go running for only 20 minutes straight every day listening to great tunes.

One week of that and you'll feel thinner. Two weeks of it and you'll definitely be thinner. One month of it, and you'll lose a waist size. Two to three months of it, your stomach will be gone.

Plus all you'll have spent is maybe $400-$500.

If all you want is cardio/weight loss, then I agree with the running shoe/MP3 (Nano!), to go on the cheap. However, if you don't like running in the cold, get a good quality treadmill (or elliptical trainer, if worried about your joints).

I already do that... I got bored of running my local route... and all the running is hard on my knees and ankles... plus, I'm already thin (just ask ~A~ hehe) with no luv handles... I'm basically the male equivalent of a spinner (I guess that explains why I like spinners so much... I like somebody as thin as me)... but I want to STAY thin and get my cardio even better... thought I would try a home setup.

I wouldn't mind a setup that also works abs and legs... I don't really care about any other muscle groups... so basically just cardio, abs, legs... I guess I'm in the wrong forum... will try to research some fitness forums, but I'm just too lazy right now... would rather watch a good movie :).

get a bowflex ... the ads are dorky but they work well ... the new ones are way improved and have a lot of really good features ... you can also buy the older ones used at some equipment places.

on the other hand, nothing beats a plain jane set of weights ... do the basics in a circuit training routine and get the benefits of both toning and cardio.

you can also spend an additional $150 and get a mag-wheel for your bike and ride at home! they use magnets for resistence and will work with a street or mountain bike.

or get a dog ... great companionship and a reason to get out of the house ... and chicks dig dudes with dogs ... more sex means more testosterone for less exercise ...

your mom says hi.
i used to work out out of my home and i had nice equipment too. but i found there were just too many distractions at home to keep me 100% motivated. even though i had the equipment at home i joined a gym and things were much better. you know why your there and the workouts seemed to be more intense.

Don't know much about Total Gym, but I feel Bow Flex will only help you either tone up (if done several reps) or bulk up. These workout are mainly anaerobic.

Flame me if you want, but to achieve good cardio conditioning, toning up and definition, you need a lot more aerobic and cardio workout (bicycling, running, jumping ropes, swimming). If you want to do it from home, then you'll have to do what funkymunky just said (get an elliptical trainer).

However, an elliptical trainer usually runs toward the more expensive end of your price spectrum ($3000).

3rd rock from the sun
must be the gym

I have tried many of the home solutions and invariably the damn things are in the Buy and Sell within a month.

The distractions are too great at home - get a gym that is close, go and do your workout, look at some spandex covered titties and you will be fit in no time!

sounds like you need a bike......that covers the legs & cardio, crunches will take care of the abs. I was in the best shape of my life when I biked everywhere (no car)

I like the Billy Blanks Tae Bo videos - Muscle & Fitness magazine

My dream is a Bow Flex in the livingroom

Dude, can I recommend home exercise with body weight? It takes some self discipline, but push ups and pullups are AMAZING exercises. You can do lunges and squats as well for legs and various abdominal/core exercises also. Plus, once you get good at them, you go online and find all kinds of interesting variations on the above mentioned exercises.

There is reams of stuff on various home work out plans and stuff. Lots of intense plans from crazy Russian ex-Spetnatz workouts and all kinds of stuff. Browse around...you'll be surprised.

Really, body weight exercises get overlooked....

So you are a male spinner and don't want to bulk up (not even 5 or 10 pounds).

How tall are you and what do you weigh.

The routines on a Bowflex are great for toning and strength, but and continuous resistance training will add some size (just like the pump from working the muscle). 20 minutes of strength training without really resting is a great addition to some harder cardio work.

The extra muscle is like 10 minutes of cardio every day (buring galories while you sleep). Plus the woman of your dreams will love your pipes.

The bowflex dumbell system is also great. I go to a gym now, only becasue I found it to easy not to use my bowflex at home, plus I like the gym and the environment (coed). But I have used that system at a condo complex for a couple of weeks and really it is like having the entire dumbell rack in your house. Plus the bench is good qulity.

As for a cardio machine, I like the elipticals, and the eliptical routines on a system like they have at the gym really give you a great work out. Arms and legs.

Either machines like this, hardcore mountain biking or runing up a mountain (a la rocky 4) is really really required to get serious "cardio strength" and real muscle endurance, which really should be your goal. Especially with your Cage Fighting Dreams, you will need that extreme endurance.

Actually the real test of "fitness" should be to wrestle someone for ten minutes, there are lots of guys who can run a marathon, but would be exhausted wrestling.

nope, got a bowflex (real old model) but really like it ... the new ones are even better (more features, better seating, less space) ... it takes some getting used to how it works, but you can switch exercises fast and don't need a spotter!

and doggies are great all-around exercisers!

you can also circuit train for cardio ... unless you are training for competition ANYTHING that gets your heart rate up will help your cardio ...

and you can get a mag resistence trainer for a bicycle for about $150 ...

or just run up and down the stairs at home.

better yet, get a dog! they provide lots of benefits including exercise!

4 sessions a week, unless you are following HATRICK around you will be able to populate a very nice gym.

Doesn't it get expensive eventually?

Oh wait, with 3000 dollars, you may be able to get plenty of 30 minutes sessions. :D
