Bad title....merling and dignitaries go together on this one.
I have confirmation of the agenda for the west coast dignitary. He is due to arrive Saturday A.M., barring unforeseen circumstance. Apparently, he is able to stay until Sunday. And, yes, it's a "he", this is a men's club after all. As HB so eloquently pointed out when he formed it, it's all about taking back the fire. I'm still scratching my head over what the hell that means, I would rather just get laid....but, I trust HB. Having said that, we are an inclusive club, the same parameters apply regardless of gender.
So, given that there was legitimate comment on "lack of notice", this will address that. The dignitary from afar (west coast) arrives on Saturday, August 21, 2010......I will await his update on the date that works best. I could give a twoonies toss if it's Saturday or Sunday so I will plan for Saturday evening.
As for any "visiting" dignitary, he/she can expect to be provided free beverages at the expense of either myself or the other charter MERL members....HB40 and Jim. As for what makes a charter member, well that's easy. Anyone who has attended twice. Yes jdtipper, katoe, and darkknight, charter membership awaits.
This will be my first "non smoking" MERL meeting....will it be yours HB? I sure as hell hope so because I am scared shitless of losing my hard won 5 year virginity. I don't want you to win...but I don't want you to lose. I am nervous about my ability to do this....a little bit scared....but, the bet is sufficient to provide the motivation I was seeking. So I say, thank you HB for the bet.
One last thought, I have told a few of my non perb friends (yes, I have those, I count them on less than the fingers of one hand....but, that's just a life reality) that I have a bet in place of $350 to quit starting at midnight tonight. The two responses I got were similar...."how how will you know if you've won?". And my answer was the same...."He's a gentleman, he won't be able to look me in the eye if he's failed". If you see HB smoking, please don't tell me....that's not what I'm after. Because my reply will be..."I don't believe you". I would prefer, infinitely, that I am not placed in the spot of issuing that reply.
Frankly, I would prefer not to win....but I sure as hell won't lose.

p.s. on a moments reflection, that sounded arrogant to say "I sure as hell won't lose". I may very well lose.....but this is a positive change. Smoking is indefensible. My kids want this, I want this, and thank you, again, HB for providing the last stage impetus to make it happen. Oh gawd, I hope I don't fail....
