So I was in chat and one of my visitors from Calgary is wanting me to come to Calgary anyway... so my question is .. are these articles correct on the length of time I am contagious.

The second article says after 3 days on novo-pen-vk that I will not give my strep to another person. ( I started my medicine on the 25th) but the nurse told me that I am contagious til the prescription is done.

Advice please ...

Annalise,

you will not be contagious after the 3 day period but you need to take all the antibotic that has been prescribed to you.

The following is from http://www.lung.ca/antibiotics/

Because bacteria are living organisms, they are always changing in an effort to resist the drugs that can kill them. When antibiotics are used incorrectly, bacteria can adapt and become resistant. Antibiotics are then no longer useful in fighting them. Antibiotic resistance is now a major public health issue. The correct use of these drugs is the best way to ensure that antibiotics remain useful in treating infections. Do take all of your medication. Continue taking your antibiotic even when you feel better. If you don't finish the prescription, you may not kill all the bacteria and you may get sick again. The bacteria still alive can then become resistant, worsening the infection you already have, and making it harder to treat.

Also try to take at the same time each day. Assuming the medicine is in liquid form, did the nurse tell you to keep it refrigerated?

I think every case is different and even harder to figure out how much of the infection has affected you. Say 4.5 days and you'll be strep free, it seems to be a safe number.

The nurse probably told you that so you'd complete the cycle of meds.

Noone can't predict with any accuracy what day you will be safe. If you want to be safe wait until your Ciproflaxin (or whatever anti biotics you're on) are done.

I have the pills - and no one told me to take them the same time every day.

Penicillin deaths have gone up in the last 10 years due to patience not finishing their cycle of meds. Our bodies adapt to the medicine then it stops working to kill of the most simple of illnesses. Although it has been 4 days/5 days I still have a tingle in my throat. Finishing medicine is not something any doctor has to worry about with me ... down the hatch it goes ~ hiddy ho hiddy ho ~

Cipro is a broad spectrum antibiotic and therefore an effective treatment for gonorrhea as well as anthrax and many other bacterial infections including strep. Many physicians prefer to prescribe penicillin based antibiotics over fluoroquinolones due to price.

Hope u get well soon:)
