I like a good boxing match and am warming to MMA.

This fight sounds like it could be fixed in Mayweather's favour with 8 oz gloves, McGregor can only box and no MMA moves like kicks or elbows. A Vice article I read yesterday said it may be outright dangerous for McGregor to get in the boxing ring with Mayweather.

What do you say?

Going to a pub or paying the $100 HD show at home?

It is completely in the control of Mayweather Jr. Being that it is to promote both sports, he'll make it sporting. If they play it out so that Conor can go the distance (like a Rocky B.) then everyone will be happy. I'd pay for a Lesnar vs. Rousey... Lol.

What? McGregor can only box?

That's nuts. I thought the whole point was MMA vs boxing.

Take away his MMA advantage and you might as well say it is fixed on behalf of Mayweather.

I'm really excited to watch this fight. We don't know what is going to happen until it happens! :D... but yea maybe McGregor only being able to box will restrict him majorly. We might see some loose shots if his MMA instincts kick in >_<.
Does anyone know a good pub to watch the fight in Downtown Victoria?

It's going to be a joke. A MMA fighter with mediocre boxing skills going up against the best boxer in the world in that weight class. It's being hyped up to absurd levels simply because of the money involved. Anything that would highlight McGregor's skills as an MMA fighter is banned from this fight. The outcome is predictable.
The best boxers in the world aren't able to land effective punches on Mayweather. McGregor won't be able to touch him.

Having said, one of my friends paid for PPV, and to justify it, he's having a bunch of us guys come over to his place to watch it.

One thing for sure this fight will break PPV records. I want to see one of these guys get KO but most likely wont happen. McGregor is in great shape but can he last 12 rounds against one of the best defensive boxers of all time? He could tire depending how discipline he is. Depending on the outcome the post fight interviews could be entertaining.

Will be watching with pizza and a few pops.

Pitting one of the best boxers of all time against one of the best MMA fighters of all time in a boxing match and common sense would dictate the boxer will win.
But when the boxer hasn't fought in 2 years, is in his 40's, 11 years older, is not training hard, is smaller and has let his opponent get in his head, the odds start to shift.
It may depend on how much Conor got in his head and what the ref lets him away with weather it's a joke or not.
Mystic Mac has made many accurate predictions.
Will his beard and straight left be enough...
Whatever happens you have to give him credit. Took himself from welfare to combat sports biggest thing in 4 years.
Unfortunately Floyd will probably run, again. And we will be left wanting more.
My money's on McGregor, it pays better.

I could care less about the fight, but what's with the semi McGregor was sporting at the weigh-in?

Was he that aroused?

I got suckered into buying the Pacquiao/Mayweather fight, not falling for it this time! Both Mayweather/Mcgregor will be winners of this fight with the paycheque they're receiving.

Hi Nicole, there are two sports bars I can think of but I am not a big sports fan. The Shark Club on Douglas and The Clubhouse at the Strathcona on Douglas. Oh, there is another place on Johnson, I can't remember the name. Hope thats a little helpful. ;)

I've never understood what people get out of watching people beat each other up.

Hey, like what did I say? It was an entertaining bout where both sports get promoted. Conor showed some of the things that would work to "sink the bridge" and close in for MMA-legal strikes (and both Floyd and the Ref played that up for effect). Floyd took it easy on Conor (as he should) and ended the bout in the 10th without trying to reconstruct Conor's face (really, those rights were measured and restrained). Glad to see that the speed and accuracy of Mayweather Jr. hasn't really diminished. Conor? Props to him. He is one tough son of a B. For a "rookie" boxer he showed some skills I didn't think he had too.

C Throppled: I don't like seeing slaughters or undisciplined brawls, but good defense, energy management, psychological battles, and intelligent strategy are showcased when boxing is at its best. Top level UFC can be messy, but watching the pro's stop take-downs or get out an arm-bar is educational. More traditional Martial Arts can seem boring and rigid but I can see why they score them the way they do. I don't think I'd ever want to watch true Kumite.

Jello or oil wrestling?... OHHH yes....

I have never watched mma and stopped watching boxing when the heavy weight champions stopped being household names. I read a series of articles on the bout in The Guardian and the fight played out exactly as predicted - Conor never had a chance. In general, Mma fans had a distorted perception of McGregor's chances and had no sense of the skill required in boxing and they gave Las Vegas a huge payday.
