Madonna wants to follow in the footsteps of Oprah.

The singer has released a video on her Web site asking fans for donations to a girls' school in Malawi.

"There are very few girls in Africa in general who are encouraged or allowed to go to secondary school so after spending a lot of time there I realized that one of the ways I could help was to build a girls' school," she said.

She continued: "I would really be grateful if you would get involved and help me in any way that you can with donations, spreading the word, visiting my website, reading about the progress that we've made so far.... I would appreciate any help you could give us."

Madonna has made regular visits to Malawi since adopting her youngest son David, 3.

WOW The nerve She's worth like 300 million dollars ....charges ....I don't even know 150-200 for one of her concerts and has the nerve to ask fans to donate and help her build a school....Just buck up honey.....unreal she could spend 10 million on the school and never miss it

Just pathetic:mad:

You guys do realize that artists don't make any money from going on tour, don't you? Tours are meant to promote albums. The cost of Madonna going on tour is astronomical. The high ticket prices goes toward paying for the equipment, transportation, employee costs, venue rental, hotels, food, etc. The less of a production, the less the show costs. From what I understand, Madonna puts on quite the production. No, I am not a fan.

On the flip side, nobody can say how much she personally donates to the cause herself. She may donate millions, or she may be a cheap bitch, who knows?

My point is she should be donating all of it, people working 9-5 should donate?? Consider the donation the $350 bones for the ticket to the show......and make no mistake tours line their pockets.

You're VERY wrong. Artits make MOST of their money by going on tour, and almost nothing from actual record sales.

Funny, just read the autobiographies for Slash, Anthony Kiedis and Motley Crue and they all said the opposite. Think I'll stick with their opinions over yours if you don't mind

especially in this day and age when you can down load for free off the internet. cars have satellite radio stations and you can plug in an ipod into some cars as well. So these days artists charge unreasonable concert prices so they can still afford to live in million dollar homes and wear 800 dollar shoes.
before burned cds and ipods artists made money off their music sales, not so much today, now they make money off commercials and 100 to 300 dollar concert tickets.

You should know better than to argue with trackstar, he was a multi-platinum recording artist in his dreams. So he must know what he is talking about.

I have read that concerts are where these artists make their money.
Do you think Cher would be doing her numerous farewell tours if she
wasn't making any money? Don't thinks anyone is rushing out for Cher
CD's!!

Hey Wilde,

You are only half correct when it comes to Trackstar. Not only is he a recording legend (in his own mind) but he could be the single smartest expert in EVERY FIELD know to mankind. Whether it be politics, economics, sports, religion, sex, the list goes on and on...

I always though I was opinionated, but I couldn't even hold a candle to the aforementioned Trackstar.

It must be so difficult for him in life. Where oh where does he find suitable people to converse with. Oh, I know, this highly intellectual individual spends his free waking moments on PERB.

Oh, and by the way Wilde, being an ex-Montrealer, I too have a love of the Habs, not as much as I used to, but its still there.

Ex-Montrealer here as well. Hey it's the centennial year, no better time to rekindle your love of the Habs. We better keep this quiet or else you know who is going to chime in.

LOL give a dog a bone...haha you guys would fight about anything on this website!

anyway sorry but im in a agreement with the funky dude, i have clients and friends in the music industry and they make the majority of thier money on tours and indorsement as he had said. album sales are seriously low thanks to limewire, kazaa, etc itunes is barely giving artists a come back from the pirating hits they have been taking.. :(

poor poor musicians.. :(

donate 1 dollar from every ticket sale to her cause of choice...after a world tour that has to equal a nice bundle no??

but i think her intentions on asking for help is, perhaps to shed some attention on her cause...and perhaps herself?

liveforthefunk: Debates on a subject. Disagreements offered, insults not.

wilde: Makes no point on the subject, has nothing intelligent to say, insults present.

Why you have to say anything is beyond me. What's the matter, the wife picking on you again?

Trackstar, what took you so long. Hope I haven't hurt your feelings.
Why don't you find a real website to show your incredible intellect. Your talents are being wasted on an Escort Review Board.

On top of everything else, you have NO sense of humour.
