Those people ranting on twitter (there seriously were a lot of them not just on #missamerica2013 , but on my feed too) just made themselves look ignorant... Outside of all the racist comments.... She's Hindu, not Muslim and she's Indan, not Arab... But even if she was an Arab Muslim so what?? The worst is when they were on the Today show saying "they caled her a lot if derogatory names, like a Muslim" EXCUSE YOU?!? Naming a religion is not derogatory! If you called someone an Episcapalian is that a "derogatory name"?!? The were trying to stand up for her, but they ended up looking racist too!!! Such a touchy subject, even more so in the states than here.... But she's so beautiful and she won. One of the requirements for entering the Miss America pageant is being born on American Soil... Therefore there's no argument anyone can make... None whatsoever ... How dare people try to rain on her parade! They are turning something that should be one of the most proud and exciting times of her life, and shitting all over her... That's gotta be painful... How fukkin dare they........

I think, sometimes,the way a religion is named can can cause a problem.
i.e. if I call somebody a "hindu" I think many,if not most,would find it offensive,even if the meanng is "he/she is of the hidu faith"

similarly,I think it's safer to say "he/she is jewish" than "he/she is a jew."

in today's PC world what we say can be like walking a minefield.

Exactly why in the billions of interactions a day you would not experience what others would experience in their billions of interactions a day to conclude something very different from you. Do you think the victims are insane or overly sensitive? Does it ring any bells in your head that is what it is to be privileged? To be oblivious? To be ignorant? No? I have lived in America as a child and have many American friends. There are 2 types of Americans I know.
#1 - One that is educated and travels. Has seen the world, experienced different cultures, had INTERACTIONS with other cultures and realizes there is more than just America
#2 - There is another group that has no idea of anything outside of the USA. The are born and bred in the greatest country in the world and can never ever imagine leaving a country so rich and powerful.


One thing I know about "stupidness" is that it does not discriminate.

Yes, you're right. Her's is just another typical example of the those in the privileged majority not being able to withstand even a small perceived slight while being oblivious to the constant and obvious and bold offenses against minorities.

who has the audacity to take the position as the privileged majority that those in the minority who feel victimized are being overly sensitive, when he clearly is oblivious to how often and for how long the minorities have had to put up with the usual crap. It is the luxury of the privileged to be oblivious.

When you're born with a silver spoon in your mouth, you don't realize what those who are less fortunate have to go through. Like the rich spoiled boy who grew up in a family with money, he has no sensitivity to the plight of the poor. That's such an obvious analogy yet those in the privileged majority just don't have the basic humanity to make the link.

Thanks for those videos. That was hilarious.

But don't get your hopes up. Some people are just never going to care about any other perspectives or experiences than their own. It doesn't matter how much you try to show them there exist perspectives and experiences completely different than their own that are just as valid and real as theirs, they don't care, they don't want to know and they will continue to think theirs is the only important way to see and experience the world.

No matter what you say, nothing's going to change that if it hasn't the very first time you explain it. I don't know if it's about being incapable of doing it but I suspect it's simply not wanting to bother and preferring the more comfortable, pleasant experience and self important feelings of validation they get from staying in that "all about me" bubble. But who knows? Maybe I'm wrong and they're simply incapable.. But the bottom line is that there isn't much you can change in the mind of these people, or they would have done it on your first try. After that, they don't really have much more to add than petty attempts at provocation or ridicule.

Lacking basic humanity as the cause for this behaviour is a bit depressing but perhaps you're right.

Yet if there were 'White colleges', that would be a racist college.

In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights.
If we marched for our race and rights, you would call us racists.

You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're not afraid to announce it.
But when we announce our white pride, you call us racists.

But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society, you call him a racist.

I know this post is old now.......... but ppl for the most part still kind of hate brown ppl if they don't show it openly, it's behind closed doors now. If it's not open hate it's stereotyping or jokes. I'm happy 2 say Canada is a lot better when it comes to that racist stuff but it's still around.
