Even though I'm retired I still like to open up a massage parlour. Anyone have a clue what is involved? I gots the $$$ and time and experience, but I don't know what it would take to make a money making establishment. Guys, please tell me what your ideal massage parlour would be like and perhaps I can taylor it to suit your needs. What would be a convienient central location? what types of girls should I have? what is a reasonable room fee price that you would be willing to pay? I was thinking Vancouver, but is there a untapped city I should try out? Perhaps for the men who would like to be discreet? Thanks guys and gals for your imput!

Wouldn't you have to take advantage of the girls in order to be profitable? That's sort of the complaint I've heard from most girls that have worked in these places...whether it was by management or other staff....and that doesn't strike me as your kind of gig from what you say about yourself.

I couldn't deal with the drama the girls and the shit lifestyle bring with it on a daily basis.

Run it like a big playboy party. Half naked chicks playing volleyball, sitting by the pool, standing by the bar. If the guy or girl wants, they can get their massage in the open atmosphere, or take their selection upstairs to one of the many theme rooms. A flat fee at the door will include half hour of mingle time and an hour of fun time with a hostess. The fee covers the room, anything extra is up to the girl. House takes 50percent, and sets up a medical and dental plan for its employee's. :)

A massage parlour doesn't have to take advantage of girls to be profitable in the sense that she could be providing an alternative. Girls may choose to work for others rather than themselves because they don't want the hassles of being indy. They'll end up in a massage place regardless because that's all they know. Pinky could run a place that is the lesser of most evils. She may choose to give the girls a bit more of a cut and treat them with the care and respect they deserve. Not all places offer this. Just a thought. Good luck Pinky.

Hi Miss P., I had a couple of threads about this last year, which unfortunately got inexplicably nuked along with my old handle. I'll try and summarize below:

* location is not a big deal. Some guys like a central location because it's close; others like the 'burbs because it's more discreet, so it's a wash. Make sure you have a discrete entrance in the back though, no matter what.
* try to get a bit of variety among your staff to appeal to all tastes. When it doubt though, you can never go wrong with young, slender, and pretty.
* to have a top-flight studio, you want to have at least one or two "superstar" girls (ie., the ones that everyone talks about) to get some "buzz" around your studio, and decent, consistent service throughout the rest of the line-up. No bad apples, because that can turn some people off the whole studio. A lot of guys like the reassurance that no matter who they see, they will at least not be ripped off.
* stick with the industry-standard room fee ($25 in Edmonton), unless you feel your studio offers something others do not.
* when starting the business, get to know someone in the biz, or try to partner up with someone in the biz. Word of mouth seems to be how the majority of recruitment is done.
* get a nice web site, and keep it up to date. Look at Penthouse's web site (http://www.penthousemassage.ca) for a site that is univerally applauded. I'd conservatively estimate that PERBerts (and lurkers) make up one-third of an MP's clientele, so remember that the Internet can be your friend.
* despite all the horror stories you hear and may have about dirty guys, the majority of guys are quite clean. Keep a clean studio with a nice working shower and clean towels. The atmosphere you want to portray is a classy place where nasty things happen :).
* while a lot of what happens in the room comes naturally, train your staff in the little touches (eg., a hug at the door, helping the client clean up after the session, cleaning the room in the nude post-session never hurts, etc.)
* treat your girls with respect, and reward the ones that return that respect. Get rid of the ones who don't. Quickly. The girls make the studio, not the other way around, and I don't think many MP owners realize this.
* IMHO, whether to start up a new place or buy an existing one depends on the place. If you buy a place that was not well-liked, you will inherit their baggage as well.
* money can corrupt horribly in this business. Please don't let it happen to you, because it sounds like your heart's in the right place.

What about SWAN?

misspinky
So ladies, what I am doing now is working with a group called SWAN which stands for Sex Work Action Network.

SWAN are volunteers from diverse backgrounds, communities and cultures. Some women in our group (including myself) are experiential. Majority of us are Asian and can provide language translation in 8 Asian tongues.

Our aim is to support, share information with and outreach to women in adult entertainment, bar hospitality, ‘guest’ relations, massage parlours, sex work and other venues of the sex industry to create safer environments for all women through participatory and collective action. We work to establish connections with women from different experiences with the intention of improving women’s access to information, services and resources.

We go into massage parlours with nurses and they can provide on site check-ups for just about anything including pregnancy tests. We can provide non-judgemental emotional peer support and provide supplies (condoms etc.). We are also available to come to your agency or do home visits. By using our free service is strictly confidential!!!!!

If you know anyone who is interested in accessing this service or in volunteering (we dont pay very much, but great way to hook up and make new friends as we are a very lovely bunch of ladies consisting of 15 members) please email us @ swanvancouver@hotmail.com.
There's a sticky thread about your involvement with SWAN. Are you planning to do both?

I like the idea mentioned above of "mingle time", it is hard to pick a girl just by her picture and sometimes you get a gorgeous young thing who is also an idiot...

Working with SWAN doesn't have to mean helping girls get out of the business if its not their choice. SWAN supports girls who are in the business by offering them access to its variety of services and resources. Opening up a parlour and working with SWAN doesn't necessarily have to be a conflict of interest.

So, she is helping these girls to access the resources of men's shafts and their money? don't see the help there, seems simply like business.

Business is busines. To think differently would be naive but a business owner with heart is better than one without. If Pinky treats her employees better than other owners do then we should wish her good luck on her ventures. People do better in businesses they are familiar with so if that's what she knows who can blame her? She never did say her motives for opening a parlour was to help the girls out anyway.
