Mary Passed away this morning.

Always a fav of mine when I was a kid. Dick van Dyke and the MTM shows were pretty good with excellent writers.

My favourite was when Dick got annoyed at her for being nosy. I think she was opening his mail.
So he mailed himself an inflatable life raft, the kind that holds a dozen people.
The mailman drops off the big box and she can't resist peeking inside. But then the boat starts inflating and it's huge...filling the living room.
She's freaking out trying to fold it up or squash it just as he comes in the front door.

"Turned the world on with her smile".....a fave of mine as well when I was a youngster b3. If you remember her in the Dick Van Dyke Show, she was almost Jackie Kennedyesque. She was such a beauty back then and so talented. What a career she had.

RIP MTM.

Good thread.
I have never seen a show with her, but have heard the name.
So it is nice to put a face and shows to her name.
My Dad told me on the phone last night she was one of his altime favorite actors.

The thing is Mary came across so nice on screen she was overlooked for movies. "Ordinary People" changed that image because her character was a rather cold, detached mother with a lot of denial. It was ground breaking after seeing her play a lot of comedic roles.

RIP Mary. Loved that show. And yes, as someone above pointed out, her chemistry with Asner was awesome. Really her chemistry with everyone on the show was great. She was a natural. Impeccable comedic sense and timing. The "you've got spunk" scene is one of the best short scenes of all time. Beautifully played. Perhaps best episode is the Chuckles the Clown death/funeral show

Mary chastising her work mates for joking about his death in advance of funeral and then she loses it at funeral. Few words spoken. All laughs, looks and cries. Beautifully played. She was a natural. There will never be another MTM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92I04DkMEps
