Marianne died on Thursday, and I was a bit surprised to see no mention here.
'As Tears Go By' was just about the first song Mick Jagger and Keith Richards wrote together, and it catapulted her to fame.
It's a song about growing old.
It is the evening of the day / I sit and watch the children play / Doing things I used to do, they think are new.

For me it was her "comeback" album Broken English. Sort of came outta no where.

Somehow can't separate the image of her lying on a bed with a mars bar in her, with Keith and Mick jumping around taking bites. Probably about as credible as the Richard Geere hamster urban legend. But it sticks in your mind. Did ok for a one hit wonder. Probably a nice girl. Just can't get past the Rolling Stones association. Tarnishes anything for me I suppose. Girl of the sixties. RIP.

I recall reading about when the Rolling Stones went to Morocco in the late 60’s they happened to see an accident in Marrakech where a cart driver I believe was killed. Marianne went and dipped a handkerchief into the blood of the dead cart driver for its mystical power perhaps, the purpose of her actions has since escaped me.

I think she has a lot more hits than just one. She was super popular in the 60s. She dated mick jagger for years. They were in a serious 4 year relationship at the time and remained friends until she died. I highly doubt the candy bar story. She was never a groupie. When they broke up, she became a heroin addict and even homeless. Got off the junk and then put out over 20 albums. Years later even young people know why’d you do it. She was cool long before I was born and still relevant today.
