i have no problem whatsoever with police in general, they do a necessary job and are often hamstrung by idiotic rules put in place by politicians

what i do have a problem with is a couple of extremely overweight individuals being selected for a job in which they are representing the force, and in a way all canadians. and yes they were senior members, and yes us old folks have a difficult time keeping our weight down, and yes blah... blah... blah... but i maintain that a couple of porkers should not have been chosen for that job no matter how exemplary their careers have been. i for one was ashamed at the image they presented

i was also ashamed that our federal minister of defence showed up for the opening ceremony wearing friggin' JEANS fer fuck's sake... he could have worn a proper suit for the ceremony then changed into jeans for the game. the juxtaposition of him in jeans and the senior members of the forces all decked out in their military finest, made mackay look like an idiot. it's not like they don't have change-rooms at bc place
I agree. They all are abusing their rights that the government gives them. People in Canada cannot face reality because it will deface them. This is one of the worrys they try to put it aside, instead of actually attacking it and solving it.

I noticed that too, as well as the chubby mounties...it comes down to not a good and strong visual representation of what's Canadian, the tradition of the CFL, the Grey Cup, etc. It was a great game, not a nail biter, but dramatic with a bit of animosity between the clubs playing....but the ceremonial stuff needs to better represent a stronger, got-shit-together message rather than Sgt. Crueller and Cpt. Bearclaw did.

One caveat....they did look well decorated and there was no back story on the two officers which would have better qualified why they were choosen to bring in the Cup.
Talk about respect to themselves, right? Where's the respect they gave to the sport?!  This is one of the reasons why Canada cannot be prosperous. They never respect their jobs! F**king people!

Very well said,

there seems to be a disdain for any type of Law Enforcement by certain individuals on this board, I don't really understand it, typically that kind of attitude is one held by criminals.

Have some repect these guys put their lives onthe line everyday, when was the last time you did that?
I'll give you a hint. What if the country is full of criminals and how can these fat cops, especially front line fat cops protect the good samaritans?

I wouldn't go so far as to say that I was "ashamed" by this but I have to agree that I thought it was inappropriate, especially, as you point out, since he was flanked on either side by the members in their dress uniforms.

To the OP....do you have a gut?......people that live in glass houses should not throw the first boston creme.

SR
But I think he at least respect his job. :) There is a standard and strict image for every single job. That will tell people whether or not you are professional and are able to be trusted. I don't see people in Canada understand this basic reality thing. Well...... :)

what do you mean by that? Any example or can you be more specific?
My point made....your perspective is skewed by your lack of understanding of other cultures different from your own, which I am getting the impression is also alien to pretty much anyone who is not tic tac trolling in mum's basement. Irony is a concept, sarcasm is the delivery.

If it isn't very effective, then I'll have to say: wrong method and b.s. Reason: using the wrong method to deal with a bad issue will make it worst.
Understanding other cultures different from my own: yes
The method of dealing with that particular issue in its own culture: not effective
Conclusion: bad issue getting worst
Reality check: that culture is garbage on dealing with serious issues

Wow that sounds so striking....on my worst day at work that I refer to as my bananna day from hell I moved 650 pounds of freight to/in/off/in/off my truck in 45 between picking up and dropping off...so I moved 3250 pounds of freight....sounds like you have it pretty cushy to me with a 30 minute walk......ever try to chase down a crack dealer?....ever try to forcefully remove an edged weapon from a hostile person in close quarters?.....ever try to sprint 2 blocks wearing body armour?

that's what i've been trying to say all along - those 2 gents that carried the grey cup in simply didn't look the part. they may have been super-stars in their day, but the game needed mounties with game to bear the cup

but maybe we could have hired you to do the job... :)

...and yes, in my 6 pack days, i did much of the stuff you mentioned, but as you age you too will see your physical abilities begin to change

This thread is a disgrace. The two gentlemen who carried the Grey Cup don't deserve to be ridiculed like this, they are two individuals who were chosen to carry a cup. Lighten up people.
Gotta agree with you on this. Two guys carry the cup, both with at least twenty years service based on what was visible on their uniforms. So both have some middle age spread. The constable, has a medal for Meritorious Service, and he is a marksman with rifle and pistol. So if you run and he can't catch you at least there won't be any collateral damage if he shoots you. The other officer that actually took the cup on the stage is more interesting. He is a Staff Sergeant Major, only 16 of them in a force of 29,000. At this point in his career he is probably strictly an administrative officer. But somewhere in his career he put his life on the line to save somebody's life, note the Maltese Cross around his neck. You'll see another similar cross on his chest, that's an award for an act of bravery/courage approved by the Queen, presented by the Gov-Gen. The others appear to be service awards. I'd say he's a pretty damn good representative of the RCMP. Though I guess those four buff young bucks from YVR probably have time on their hands and probably could have done the job as well, and looked a lot more "purdy" doing it.

.....and cowboy, the Sam Browne was being worn exactly where it is supposed to be worn. It's how the uniform is designed.

Dont twist my words to suit your purpose you slimey douchebag.....what I said was directed at you and had no bearing on your lame ass statement....and with regards to getting older I guess it sucks to be you....I am 40 and am in better shape than I was when I was 20...I guess that is what 20 years of hard work gets you.....cant say I am any fan of LE of any stripe but I sure as hell dont bash them with regards to the job they do.....and with regards to the pastime that all of us partake in their enforcement of it is lukewarm at best as they have better things to do.

Didn't want to disgrace. But the picture doesn't look very professional. The chosen RCMP guys totally disrespect the whole event. But people in Canada will say "who cares?! we win!" Yeah, you win the sport. But you shame the country! This is why we don't really care about cops that much nowadays.
