For all the American haters out there. I am a Canadian-American and I see both sides of the story. The States has many faults and they are not very respected in other parts of the world. The fact is we should also appreciate American's for fighting for our freedom. iraq, Vietnam??. Yes I agree those were not the popular one's among American's citizens as well.

Lets go all the way back to WW2. What if the American's did not drop Fat Man and Little Boy. This would be a different world. Nazi's would be patrolling Stanley park and any male Asians would be shot and female Asians would be Sex slaves to the Japanese.

Would you guys rather Russia or China was the superpower in the world?. Make no mistake if Canada did not live next the United States of American, we would have been attacked by now.

What?? we live in a peaceful nation and nobody would want to attack Canada??. Hmmm lets look at the French Shall we? No Mr. Hitler we are peaceful people you never attack us would you? France now has nuclear weapons hmmmm I wonder why?

How about the Bay of pigs?. Russia had their nuclear submarines ready to take on the world. If JFK did not send out his own battleships and stick up for the free world what would have happenned?

America has always regarded Canada as a redheaded half brother. It can kick us around pretty good, but if it came down to it, they would defend our nation with the spilling their own blood.

Did you guys feel the same about the States before right winged maniac got voted into the White House? After 911 they snubbed their nose and said FU to the rest of the world and invaded Iraq, passed the patrot act and a since they cannot seem to find Osama Bin Laden they are going after things like

Prostitution
Abortion
Marijuana Clubs
Stem Cell Research
Indecency

Trust me!! I live here, more than 50% of Americans do not like the Bush administration any more than you do. Please do not judge Americans by the politicians right now. Did you guys still feel the same you way you feel now, when Clinton was in power?

You can't hate a country that gave us

TV
Telephone "Canadian born American invented this
Electricity
Airplanes
Jenna Jamesen
Mainstream Porn
Cars
Hollywood and so on and so on

I agree with some of what you're saying, but you really need to fact check your historical references before going public with them.

Fighting for our freedom? Give me a break. This is bs propaganda they spoon feed you in the media down there. Just because you bought this crap doesn’t mean we have to. Wars America had entered into (WW1 WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq etc etc) were all for the narrow interests of the financial and industrial elite. Fighting for a fascist market is what it’s all about.

Oooh about 2 million lives, mostly all civilians would have been saved. It is an atrocity that these weapons of mass destruction were used on civilians.

It may surprise you to know that the majority of the world civilian population might not want to live under a gun. Having a huge military industrial complex such as that found in the U.S. is money not well spent. Imagine what life would be like if you had spent it on free health care, education, housing.

Nazi Germany had no plan to invade the Americas; despoiling the native population of their lands, commit genocide by purposefully spreading disease, occupy it with a huge military industrial complex, maintain power over subject populations with an irrational fanatic propaganda….oh wait, you already done all that on your own.

Just boys playing with their big toys

The Soviet Union and The U.S. were using each other as an excuse for spreading fear into their domestic populations with a huge military industrial complex in order to keep their own populations under control. It was a big con.

The Bay of Pigs didn't involve any American soldiers nor did it have anything to do with the USSR. It was all about the CIA arming a bunch of Cuban exiles who had gotten fat on the corrupt Batista regime and were bitter that Fidel Castro's popular revolution had put a stop to that. They were supposed to retake the island and allow the USA to maintain hegemony over the Carribbean region.

You are thinking of the Cuban Missile Crisis, which is one of the biggest myths of modern times. Prior to the crisis, the USSR was uneasy that the USA has positioned missile installations in Turkey, very near the southern borders of the Soviet Union. When the USA refused to remove them, Khruschev made a deal with Castro to put Soviet missile installations on Cuba, which was being threatened by the USA after the failed Bay of Pigs invasion.

We've been force fed this bullshit about JFK staring down the evil empire, calling their bluff and having them back down. It's all a crock of shit. Kennedy only got Khruschev to remove the missiles from Cuba by agreeing to the complete dismantling and removal of American missile positions in Turkey. The USSR got exactly what they had wanted in the beginning, yet we've convinced ourselves that JFK saved the western world from the evil communists. And we talk about propaganda in other places?

wow have you ever read a history book?,the war in europe VE day was over before the ''bomb'' was dropped, the pay of pigs was fucked because JFK backed down on the promised air support, which led to him having a severe headache, and canada was attacted in WW!!, or do you not consider 300 lives lost when ferry from nova scotia to newfoundland was torpedoed by german submarine. And I guess if the yanks and canadians among others had to invade japan, alot more lives would have been lost.....Please educate yourself a bit more before you make yourself sound any more enlightened

I think Alexander Graham Bell is about as American as Donovan Bailey is Canadian.

Ok enough about that. Obviously people do not like my references about history so I will retract them. I was born and raised in East Van and i went to Templeton high school, then UBC unitil the age of 25 which was 6 yrs ago. .So I am as Canadian as any of you. :D

The reason why I wanted to move down here is I did not want to pay 60 percent of my paycheck to Revenue Canada. I make a pretty good living down here overall, but I hope to make enough money one day to move back to Vancouver high taxes and all.

The point to my post was just to say that yes there are the stereo typical Americans that don't know anything outside their own country and ignorant, but the majority of the people I meet down here are pretty cool. Please do let a pompous administration leave a bad taste in your mouths about all Americans.

Actually, you are totally incorrect. About 200,000 people were killed in dropping of the two bombs. If the Japanese hadn't surrenedered at that time, the US and allies would have had to invade Japan. The estimates for the number of casualties were about 1 million allied service men. This estimate does not include the number of casualties on the Japanese side - but surely it would have been more than 1 million. 200,000 vs. 2 million. A 90% reduction in lost lives.

Truman made the decision to drop the bombs because they saved lives in in the long run.

More importantly, I have always been glad he did. He demonstrated to the world early on the potential killing power of such devices. Imagine MacArther in 1950 using them on China, Russia and US using them in 1963, or Isreal using them in 1973 (yes, the could have but didn't). In all these cases, I feel that since the devastation of these devices proven, they stayed their hand and didn't press the button.
