I know it's a bit early and the Canucks brought in Curtis Sanford as Lu's backup but Sanford's play in the preseason has been nothing stellar. Could Cory Scheider take the backup role or is he pretty much slated to play for the Manitoba Moose?

Sanford is paid to sit on the bench and open the door for players during line changes.

Cory Shneider is better off getting playing time in Manitoba.

Heading into camp Nonis was asked if there was any way Schneider could make the big team. He said that Schneider was the ONLY player in camp whose fate was already decided...#1 goalie in Manitoba..guaranteed. It's the right decision, he'll be playing pro hockey and getting regular minutes. He could end up being a very valuable bargaining chip come trade deadline day or next summer.

Yeah, no point in having Schneider ride the pine all year and get 8 games of experience. This kid needs to be the #1 guy in the AHL - he can get the experience/develop properly, showcase his abilities, and he'll probably get traded down the road.

btw...Sanford has owned the Canucks in the past and will make a fine backup. I'd say he's proven himself by now, so I wouldn't read too much into a couple of pre-season games. He won't see mucyh ice anyways.
