Grabner barely played with Tavares or Okposo last year. He played third line minutes and his most common linemates were Keith Aucoin (40.6% of TOI), Colin McDonald (37.2% of TOI), and Frans Nielsen (27.1%).

The year before (2011-12) he was second line playing with Okposo (40.8%) and Frans Nielsen (57.9%).

The year he was traded (2010-11) he was second line playing with Okposo (42%) and Frans Nielsen (62.6%). He really never actually plays with Tavares and his minutes have actually been dropping since his 30G season in 2010-11. Which was one year removed from Raymond's 25G season. Neither have been able to replicate their numbers since.

Wow, someone is nerding it up. :p

I just make most of my observations based on the few Islander games that I've seen and selective highlights and I did see Tavares, Okposo and Nielsen set him up for some of his goals. I don't consider myself an expert on the Islanders or Grabner. My point relates to the Canucks and the undervaluing the talent of their prospects and the shortsighted deals the make in order to "improve" their franchise.

Yes but if Gillis makes trades everyone complains about it, but if he doesn't then he's doing a bad job. I literally can't think of one thing he could do aside from trading Tom Sestito for Sidney Crosby to make this fan base happy, and even then people would likely still moan that the Canucks lost moxy, swagger, grit or other nonsensical traits for skill. Raymond and Grabner types are hardly coveted or rare types of players, hell, Jannik Hansen is of the same mold.

This is a really good article on how AV and Gillis groomed Hodgson to up his trade value.

I agree with you to a point. Gillis can't please everyone for sure.
If you listen to the radio shows or talk to other fans there are different opinions on every move.
I was talking to someone yesterday who feels that Luongo should not have been traded.
Feels he's a top goalie, lose leadership and that we're giving up.
I disagree. I think we have comparable goaltending in Lack and we lose a negative attitude in the room.
We also gain cap flexibility, youth in net and matthias.
Who's right?
We'll see in the next five or so years.
You can argue about each move the team makes, but ultimately the proof is in the standings and the playoffs.
It's going to be a fascinating re-build.

Ugh that was hard to sit through.

The Boo Birds were out letting the Nucks know they weren't impressed by their play.
