Hey all,
I'm a reporter with Vancouver 24 hours who's writing a story on the sex trade during the Olympics.
In particular, how business has gone during the Games?
There's been a flood of ads on Craigslist so I'm curious to know if SPs are feeling any pressure from increased competition.
I've heard of price wars among and women dropping their normal rates because of a lack of demand.
I'd love to include your opinions in my story.
Feel free to respond on the board or give me a call at my desk 604.322.2352.

I can't comment on the Olympics, but I just thought I'd mention that I checked out your blog, and really really REALLY loved this little bit here:

"Some of the people who spend their lives as labourers of love offer more than simple carnal satisfaction, perhaps like this woman, who apparently kept quite the spell over her partner. Their affection seems mutual and her service invaluable, which definitely contradicts common perceptions of prostitution"

Thank you for this. It hit home and made me smile. We definitely need more open-minded reporters like you!

Still lost in the '60s
The adult ads in the back pages of the Georgia Straight have certainly become much more numerous during these Spring Olympics. But I don't suppose 24 hours is allowed to acknowledge the Straight.

Visiting Escorts Drive Down Price for Sex
By DHARM MAKWANA

A flood of out-of-town sex trade-workers in for the Games have created a price war, a local escort claims.

“You’ll see that the average rates are somewhere between $200 and $300 per hour depending on what someone is looking for,” said Misty Moonlight, an established escort in the Lower Mainland. “When you look at the ads that are being posted by all these visiting women you’ll see $40, $60, $80 and that’s a significant difference.”

Moonlight described the visiting women as “fly-by-night chicks who are in-and-out to make a quick buck.”

She warned men looking for cheap sex could be ripped off.

“Just because a girl’s cute it doesn’t mean anything,” she explained. “It’s about service.”

Online classified website Craigslist is tallying nearly a 1,000 advertisements in its erotic services section per day during the Olympics. Before the Games, the same section would list about 200 to 400 ads per day.

Moonlight never relied on the Olympics for a boost in business and instead focused on repeat clientele.

“I’d say that I’ve been doing great. I always have been doing great. There’s been a lot of outside interest and that’s to be expected.” Moonlight thinks once the Games leave town, visiting escorts will leave as well.

“They’ll leave and everything will carry on back to the way it was before.”

I read that today during my lunch break. Interesting. What really caught my eye was the article that was titled "No Condoms?!" shortage in olympic village or something. :D
