Looking for an accountant

The accountant I've used for the last couple of years is not experienced enough for my growing and changing business.

With my new venture in video's I am being paid through an American company and need advice of how to handle that money. (Set up an American bank account? etc.)

I need a great accountant who can do accounting for an 'adult' business. Everything is legal but an accountant who understands my business write-offs would be unique to other businesses could save me a lot of money.

I would even consider going to a firm if someone has a recommendation for one that would be good for this type of business.

I am happy to pay well for the right person. I doubt 'trade' would make sense but I wouldn't rule it out.

Thank you in advance to anyone who recommends someone or those who offer assistance. I just want to stress that I am looking for someone VERY qualified and I will be picky. I'm looking for someone for the long term.

When you interview an accountant you ask one simple question.

"How much is 2 + 2?"

Which ever one says "How much would you like it to be"?

That's the one you hire!!:D

Thank you to everyone who has sent info. I REALLY appreciate it.

I won't keep bumping this thread, I just wanted to comment that all accountants aren't created equal which is why I'm not looking for just a 'good' accountant but one that will have experience dealing with the US and have potentially valuable advice like this:

"you might want to look into using an accountant that has experience with the BC and federal film tax credits. Its a program that was invented to draw the film industry to BC. You can write off all kinds of expenses related to your films, and nothing in it says porno films are excluded. I know only a handful of accounting firms deal with this, but it could be very beneficial to you."

I also have reason to believe that many accountants will not deal with 'adult' businesses either for moral reasons or their own personal reasons.

Thanks again, I have a couple of good leads to follow up on but would love more.

PS: This wasn't meant as an ad, but after several curious PM's from guys asking what kind of business I'm in...here's the links: http://www.clips4sale.com/studio/23869

When I opened my clips store the end of Oct I never expected to rocket into the top 10 within 2 weeks and stay there. A little happy success story among many bad ones in a declining economy. Apparently guys can still afford porn.

I suspect you've already thought of it, but I'd suggest some kind of posting or advertisement in LA and area. There are lots of tax folks down there with Canada/US experience, some whose experience is specific to your area of concern. Also, many expat canucks down there looking for business right now. And, of course, there are many folks who live and work part of the year in LA and part in Vancouver. With due diligence on your part you might find just what you need. Good luck with your venture. I think I'm not the only one who'd love to see you billed as Mistress-T Doyenne of Online BDSM.
