Looking for advice about financially helping the family of a child with cancer

I very recently became aware of a 3 year old child from the Sunshine Coast who was just diagnosed with aggressive cancer. His family is not wealthy and they are faced with significant disruption of their lives and financial hardship. A number of people are organizing a fundraiser and would like to create a website where donations could be made to help the family. I can handle the technical aspects of the site but I'm at a loss to suggest how they should proceed with the financial mechanism. Does it make sense to create a small "foundation" (or some such organization) to receive and disperse the donations or is it better for the family to set up a personal bank account and have the money go directly there? Does anyone have any experience or insight they would care to share?

Go to the community bank. They will set up a fund for him.
By community bank, you mean a local bank in his community or do you mean a bank called Community Bank? I'm not from that area so I don't know if you are speaking generically or about a specific bank. I'm just trying to help some very distraught and overwhelmed people.

He said they are located on/at the Sunshine Coast so I guessed there may not be many banks around.I meant any bank nearby.
