The Province has an article on this today. 2 seconds to enter a Safe, an audience member did it almost as fast.

I can't find any video of him opening a non electronic safe
Anyways this guy kinda sucks in a way because he is just giving out information to anybody, even detailed info about specific models to strangers, who could be criminals...but as long as he is getting paid who cares!

Actually Caramel that method has been shown on other websites for years.

He is not spreading the word to criminals, he is warning owners of these safes that they are very vulnerable.

He is against the artificial "safety" of crap ware. There are safes and locks that actually do the job the customer expects. He can open the non-electronic version of the Sentry safe in about 10 seconds with a process known as "bumping".

Thanks for posting this sdw. I was thinking of upgrading from my little key lock safe. Good to know.

You just saved me from buying a Sentry.
There is a huge price difference between a Sentry and the safe you buy through a lock smith. http://mrlocksmith.com/burglary-fire-safes-we-carry/ compared to http://www.walmart.ca/en/office-stationery/office-supplies/safes/N-192

I actually think that if you buy a combination dial safe and secure it with a bolt to the floor, you will be safe enough. You can "bump" the Sentry combination dial safe, but only if you can tip it.

That's $200 instead of $1200. Of course it depends on how much money you are going to keep in it. Is your key lock safe one of the drop slot ones? I'd think you'd still want to use it to immediately secure the money until you can transfer it.

I believe there is an annual contest for locksmith's

how long does it take them to pick a safe open the old fashion way, by feeling the tumblers, feeling them drop or lock into place as they turn the dial.

I think the old way is sexier more skill required, some very high end safes can be dialed open in a matter of minutes by a skilled burglar or a locksmith.

interesting...

has anyone ever tried to pick a lock? Of course I have tried (when I was younger and tried to bust into bigger sisters room to steal her chocolates and makeup) and it never ever works for me :( I feel like I'm too terrible that I probably wouldn't even be able to pull off any of these other tricks.

Medco deadbolts can also be bumped. They are highly over rated.

You probably didn't use two picks the way you need to. One pick is used to maintain slight pressure and to turn the lock once the pins are in the right position. The other pick is used to "rake" the pins. You catch the first pin, and rake it up while using a little pressure to keep it up - then repeat with each pin. If you start with a middle pin, you are working against yourself because it will drop back down when you try to rake the first pin. The reason it works is because you have a little slop in the lock.

Alock is only designed to keep honest people honest. I install and change out lot of doors and locks for work. Installed high end deadbolts and then tell the client what are they going to do about the single pane side light that will pop out easy. Some of the new auto key locks are the worst. As all you need is the rekey tool and you can open the lock and leave no tell tail marks etc. One brand is used chain wide for lots of retailers. I have had to replace fire rated doors after firemen broke in. It was a hollow metal door in a concrete bunker but amazing what a fire ax will do in 5 minutes being swung by a young buck firemen. The door failed before the lock. And as the video showed more and more locks are using a cheaper price in the manufacturing that will bypass the security features. The guy in the video does training monthly. So anyone can take his 1 week course for $1500.

I found a site once that had ways to bypass all the different alarm panels, sensors etc. If there is a way some will try to break in.

On another note hats off to apple telling the US government to pound sand for wanting them to create a back door hack into a locked phone. Could you imagine the amount of data that could be had if someone was able to back door your cell phone
